Labitschberg combines viticulture, hiking trails and culinary experiences to create a destination with its own unique character. Those looking for accommodation can choose between days in the vineyards, regional tastings and tours through the countryside. The combination of hiking trails with traditional wine taverns and wineries is particularly appealing: this allows visitors to get to know the surrounding area not only actively, but also through its wine-making tradition.

Hiking through vineyards and wine-growing sites

The Great Gamlitz Circular Hiking Trail No. 8 leads via Presstal and Labitschberg onwards to Kranachberg. The “Over Hill and Vine” nature park hiking trail is marked with orange signs and trail markings. Along this trail, Labitschberg and Kranachberg are home to wineries, traditional wine taverns, direct marketers, accommodation providers offering farm holidays and small restaurants. This creates a clear choice for planning your day between exercise, stopping for refreshments and regional discoveries.

Another option is the “Over hill and dale” nature park hiking trail. It can be started at any of the 13 farms and is available in a short and a long version. The two versions allow you to take your preferred tour length into account when planning. Those who prefer to plan a longer cycling excursion can follow the Wine Road Tour, a route from Gamlitz via Labitschberg and Kranachberg. It climbs towards the two wine-growing areas along quiet municipal roads.

Wine, tastings and regional special features

The Tinnauer traditional wine tavern at Labitschberg 42 is located directly on a hiking trail. From April to November, a tasting menu with wine pairing is offered there on Thursdays. The Tinnauer winery in Labitschberg cultivates typical South Styrian DAC wines across five hectares of vineyard area. Another destination for wine enthusiasts is Weinbau Liener in Labitschberg. Its offerings include a guided tasting of its own products in a vaulted cellar dating from the 18th century.

The Franz & Carmen Pongratz winery also has a special tasting room: it is located in a more than 300-year-old vaulted cellar. The Klapsch winery cultivates around 4 hectares of vineyards on the south-facing slope. The Labitschberg and Rosenberg wine-growing sites have warm, well-aerated soils consisting of deep sandy-clayey deposits with tiny particles of weathered rock. These details give the wine trails and tastings a specific landscape and artisanal context.
