Discover Ehrenhausen: Townscape, Mur River and Mill Experience
Accommodation in Ehrenhausen
Ehrenhausen combines a well-preserved historic townscape with the Schlossberg, the Mur River and the wide, flat Murfeld plain. At the same time, the town offers a range of holiday experiences: you can explore cultural history, walk along forest and meadow paths, discover a mill with an unusual educational experience or plan a day at the outdoor pool. Ehrenhausen on the Wine Road is also considered the gateway to the South Styrian Wine Road. This combination helps you choose a holiday apartment that suits your preferred travel rhythm.
Between the Schlossberg, the Mur River and the Murfeld plain
From the Eggenberg Mausoleum, the present-day townscape of Ehrenhausen outside the historic centre is bounded by the wooded Schlossberg, the landscape area extending eastwards with the forests of the neighbouring hilly countryside, the Mur River and the wide, flat Murfeld plain extending to the north. If you enjoy combining landscapes and activity when planning your trip, the Ehrenhausen Circular Hiking Trail No. 4 offers a specific opportunity to do so.
The circular hiking trail starts directly in the centre of Ehrenhausen. It leads along forest and meadow paths to the Traussner Mill and from there follows the Mur River back to Ehrenhausen. A railway connection can be reached from the starting point within a 15-minute walk. This means the trail can also be incorporated into your arrival and daily itinerary without separating the hike from its scenic progression.
Mannerist architecture and historic centre
The Eggenberg Mausoleum stands on an artificially created terrace on the Schlossberg above the town. From 1609 onwards, it was built on behalf of Ruprecht von Eggenberg, Imperial Generalfeldzeugmeister, as a tomb for him and his family. Today, it is considered an important example of Mannerist architecture in Austria. For travellers interested in culture, it is therefore a special point of reference where local history and architecture come together.
The parish church of Ehrenhausen, dedicated to the “Sorrowful Mary, Mother of God”, is located in the historic town centre directly on the market square. Church and town tours can be requested at any time and for any number of participants from Mr Gerhard Stingel at +43 664 42 99 693. The listed Georgi Castle is operated as a hotel with comfortable rooms and suites and also serves as a venue for celebrations, seminars and weddings.
Mill, outdoor pool and experiences for different daily itineraries
The Traussner Mill has more than 400 years of history. At the Erlebnis-Mühlerei, the 3D cinema offers a three-dimensional journey through time from grain to bread, followed by a bread tasting. This adds a cultural and culinary highlight to the circular hiking trail, so you do not have to experience the town solely through its landscapes.
On warm days, the Ehrenhausen outdoor pool offers a spacious sports pool as well as separate children's and babies' pools. The outdoor pool also includes a beach volleyball court, a playground and sunbathing lawns. This allows you to choose between sporting activity, time with children and peaceful relaxation when planning your day. Which of these options is the main focus may also influence the preferred location of your holiday apartment.
The right base for your stay
If you plan to start the circular hiking trail in the centre, visit the parish church on the market square or combine culture and landscapes in one day, Ehrenhausen itself is an obvious search term for your accommodation. When choosing a holiday apartment, check which location best suits your planned activities. For a varied stay, Ehrenhausen offers historic impressions, paths along the Mur River, the mill experience and the outdoor pool.
