Kuchl combines nature experiences, regional culture and proximity to the city of Salzburg with unusual discoveries in the town itself. At Bürgerausee, a stroller-friendly walking path and the Salzach River with the “Kuchler Schwall” surfing wave offer a range of holiday experiences. Georgenberg adds rock faces, woodland paths and a bearded vulture breeding station to this landscape. Those looking for a holiday apartment in Kuchl can choose between peaceful nature experiences, regional crafts, cycling stages and a trip to Salzburg.

Lake, Salzach and Georgenberg

Bürgerausee is a man-made bathing lake in the centre of Kuchl. The tree trail runs around the lake: a pleasant, 1.5 km-long, stroller-friendly walk that is ideal for a family outing. The “Kuchler Schwall” surfing wave is located directly beside Bürgerausee on the Salzach River. It is considered a hotspot for river surfers and adds a sporting dimension to the townscape.

Georgenberg is what is known as an inselberg, with steeply rising rock faces. Pleasant hiking trails run around and up the mountain along an asphalt road; there are also hiking paths through the forest. A bearded vulture breeding station is located on the rock face. You can observe the birds there while they are being raised. Kühschwalb is also a striking place for nature enthusiasts: this secluded natural spot offers views of the sheer rock faces of Hoher Göll and forms the head of the valley beneath the eastern slopes of the Göll East Face. Nesslangeralm lies at the foot of Hoher Göll.

Local History and Regional Specialties

The Kuchl Museum on Severinplatz, next to the parish church, presents the town’s history and regional traditions. Unique exhibits are on display. Georgenberg is also home to the Church of St. George, a listed late Gothic church. Those interested in historic architectural culture can include both subjects in their own travel plans without limiting their stay to nature experiences alone.

The Bio-Hofkäserei Fürstenhof offers a special combination of farming and enjoyment. During the daily farm tours, the route leads from the stable to the demonstration cheese dairy. In the “Make Your Own Cheese” workshop, participants make their own cheese from milk through to the finished product, take part in a tasting, can take home around 850 g of cheese and receive a certificate as a Salzburger Almsommer cheesemaker. The traditional Kuchl Bauernherbst fair takes place on the second Sunday in September every year and adds a fixed date to the regional events calendar.

Cycling Routes and Salzburg as a Day-Trip Destination

For active days on holiday, a well-signposted cycle path leads from Kuchl through the entire Tennengau region to the city of Salzburg. Another route crosses the Salzach in Kuchl and follows the Tauern Cycle Path towards Golling. This allows you to take different day plans into account when choosing your accommodation: a cycle tour through the Tennengau, a stage towards Golling or a city visit to Salzburg.

The world-famous Mozart city of Salzburg can be reached from Kuchl free of charge with the Guest Mobility Ticket in just 20 minutes by S-Bahn or bus. Those who want to combine nature, regional experiences and culture in one trip can therefore consider Kuchl as a base. When looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth first defining your preferred holiday activities: walks at Bürgerausee, wildlife observations at Georgenberg, cheesemaking, cycling tours or a trip to Salzburg each lead to a different way of structuring your day.

For a broader travel comparison, you can also view Taugl, Steuer, Adnet, Rußbachsaag, Abtenau, Gaißau, Puch Bei Hallein and Annaberg-Lungötz.
