Tullnerbach-Lawies combines a distinctive historic townscape with trails through the Lawies villa district and views across the Vienna Woods as far as Vienna. Anyone looking for a mix of culture, activity and scenery for their holiday will find a variety of options here for planning their days.

Historic Lawies and the Tullnerbach Cultural Trail

Lawies is characterised by a remarkable collection of historicist villas dating from 1875 to 1910, together with their large gardens. Between 1870 and 1900, a total of 45 villas, one hotel and two commercial buildings were built in Upper Lawies. These figures give the townscape a clear historical dimension, without requiring you to limit your visit to individual buildings.

The Tullnerbach Cultural Trail leads to several stops. One of them is a stop dedicated to Richard Genée at the corner of Egererstraße and Genéestraße. Professor Rudolf Pleban Park is also a stop on the Tullnerbach Cultural Trail. Another historic destination is the Norbertinum, which was built from 1881 onwards as an extensive four-winged historicist complex. It served as an educational and training institution run by the Catholic Orphans' Aid Association and was under the direction of the Congregation of the Christian Brothers.

The former Tullnerbach municipal office is also part of the historic townscape. The listed building once housed the municipal administration, post office and gendarmerie under one roof. The former municipal office contains a historic council chamber, restored wall paintings and a former gendarmerie cell. Its historic function remains explicitly part of its history.

Between the Railway Station and Lawies

The “Tut Gut!” Tullnerbach Steps Trail begins at a starting point that can be reached by suburban railway or train to Tullnerbach/Pressbaum railway station. The trail leads through the Lawies villa district and then continues along the Karl-Ritter Trail. This makes it possible to combine an interest in physical activity with the area's distinctive townscape.

Tullnerbach-Pressbaum railway station is located in the village of Tullnerbach-Lawies in the Wiental valley. The original Tullnerbach station building has not survived. To this day, Knabstraße at the railway station is the actual centre of Lawies-Tullnerbach and provides an important reference point for exploring the town.

Lake Wienerwaldsee and the Troppberg Observation Tower

In the surrounding area, Lake Wienerwaldsee offers a promenade, a playground and skate park, and a beach volleyball court. Well-marked and well-maintained trails run there and are used by walkers and recreational athletes. Those travelling with children can plan the playground and skate park as a separate activity; anyone looking for exercise can follow the trails around the lake. This allows for different daily rhythms without requiring everyone in the group to do the same thing.

The Troppberg observation tower offers a different experience. From there, the view extends across Vienna, the Vienna Woods, Tulln, towards the Wachau, and over the foothills of the Alps with Schneeberg and Ötscher. The Troppberg observation tower is freely accessible all year round. It is therefore an independent viewing destination for your travel plans, clearly distinct in theme from the historic stops in Lawies and Tullnerbach.
