Accommodation in Krustetten
Krustetten combines wine country, local history and varied trails to create a destination with many different facets. Four vineyard routes lead through the vineyards and invite you to learn about the origins of the wines. There is also a wine tavern, a cycle path around Göttweig Mountain and historical sites in the village. Families looking for a holiday apartment can therefore consider Krustetten as a base for enjoyable, active and culturally oriented days away.
Vineyard routes and trails for different kinds of holiday
The four vineyard routes in Krustetten are easy to walk and suitable for children and senior citizens. This makes it possible to include walks through the vineyards in your travel plans without every day of your holiday having to follow the same pattern. The trails provide direct access to the wine country and combine physical activity with the opportunity to learn more about the origins of the wines. For families, this can be a pleasant choice when younger and older travellers want to explore together.
The surrounding area can also be explored by bicycle. The cycle path of the regional winegrowers’ association Vinum Circa Montem runs around the entire Göttweig Mountain. Those who prefer a longer cycling tour will gain a different perspective on the wine region than they would on a walk. In addition, the Kremstal-Danube 04 long-distance hiking trail passes through Krustetten on the stage from Paudorf to Hollenburg. You can therefore get to know the village both as the destination of your own routes and as part of a supraregional hiking tour.
Local history from the Middle Ages to the village chapel
Krustetten is first mentioned in 1072/91 under the name “Crucistetin”. In 1083, Bishop Altmann of Passau donated Krustetten, including its vineyards and winegrowers with all their appurtenances, to Göttweig Abbey, which he had founded. The connection between local history and winegrowing therefore dates back a long way and gives today’s paths through the vineyards a historical backdrop.
A major turning point was the fire of 17 May 1736. Krustetten was largely destroyed at the time, with only three houses escaping damage. The present-day village chapel is part of the more recent local history: it was completed in 1955 and consecrated on 21 August. Since 1994, the village chapel has housed the Baroque corpus of the Plague Cross. Those interested in ecclesiastical history and regional places of remembrance can take this aspect into account when visiting the village.
The past before the medieval mention is also still present. In the cadastral municipality of Krustetten, which belongs to Paudorf, there are Bronze Age burial grounds dating from around 2000 BC with crouched-burial graves. The discoveries thus span the period from archaeological traces through medieval local history to the present-day chapel.
Wine tavern and finding suitable accommodation
The local character also includes the wine tavern of the Harm winery in Krustetten. As part of your travel plans, you can combine a visit there with the vineyard routes and the other trails without limiting your stay to a single theme. Those who enjoy alternating between walks, cycling tours, local history and regional cuisine can bear in mind, when searching for a holiday apartment in Krustetten, whether the village itself suits their preferred holiday pace. Information about the facilities or availability of individual accommodations is independent of this and should be checked separately in each case.
