Kroatisch Minihof combines a long local history with distinctive buildings and recurring cultural events. The first documented mention dates back to 1195; there are also chapels, a Trinity Column and the story of a later resettlement. With events for the church festival and during Advent, the bilingual library adds a cultural touch. Local history, buildings and community events thus stand side by side as different themes for your stay.

Local History and Buildings

Kroatisch Minihof was first documented in 1195 under the name Vkas. After the village was deserted following the Turkish invasion, Croats resettled it during the 16th century. This sequence connects an early record of the name with a later major turning point and a new phase of settlement. It gives the local history a depth that begins long before the chapels and column were built.

A grange was also established in Kroatisch Minihof. A grange is a monastery’s farm estate, adding another historical dimension: alongside religious buildings, a monastic form of agricultural enterprise is also part of the village’s history.

The Cemetery Chapel of the Resurrection is a listed monument; it is included as such in the Federal Monuments Authority’s register of monuments for Burgenland dated May 28, 2024. The Chapel of the Resurrection has a stepped gable and a tower and dates from 1874. Its protected status, architectural style and year of construction offer specific points of reference for understanding the building.

Another point in time is the family chapel at the western edge of the village, built in 1879. The history of the Trinity Column includes not only the year 1787 but also renovations in 1865 and 1915. Several dates therefore relate to the same structure, marking different historical milestones.

Library, Events and Regional Food

The bilingual library run by the Young Initiative Kroatisch Minihof is located in the municipal building at Hauptstraße 36. Its team regularly holds children’s afternoons and flea markets for the church festival and during Advent. Check the schedule in advance for specific event dates. The library’s listed opening hours are Fridays and Saturdays, 5 to 8 p.m.; it is closed on public holidays. Check the hours before your visit.

The “Regional GENUSSMARKT / regionalni sajam” is a regional food market. A description of the market dated January 2026 features organic pumpkin seed oil from Biohof Stranz/Kr. Minihof. If you would like to include this culinary theme in your stay, check the market date before your trip.

Choose a Holiday Apartment to Suit Your Trip

When searching for a holiday apartment in Kroatisch Minihof, the purpose of your trip can help guide your planning. If the church festival, Advent program or food market is important to you, first check the relevant dates and plan your travel dates accordingly. If buildings and local history are your main focus, choose accommodation to suit that interest rather than a single event day. This way, you can decide whether the cultural calendar or local history should be the deciding factor for your stay.
