Yacuíba is the main reception and distribution center for tourists in the Bolivian Chaco destination, thanks to its tourism infrastructure and connections. This gives you different perspectives to consider when planning your vacation: a viewpoint in the city and cultural history in the surrounding area. When choosing a vacation rental, you can decide whether you mainly want to explore Yacuíba itself or also make room for the region’s historical and cultural themes.

City views and nature at Mirador La Cruz

Mirador La Cruz offers panoramic views of Yacuíba. Vegetation and wild birds surround the viewpoint, framing the view of the city with its natural setting. Two specific interests therefore come together here: the panorama of Yacuíba and the viewpoint’s natural surroundings. Those who enjoy combining urban impressions with nature when planning a vacation will find a local point of interest here.

Aguayrenda: history and Guaraní traditions

Aguayrenda is located near Yacuíba. According to a historical account, Fray Cristóbal Luengo founded the settlement as a religious mission on August 17, 1773. Today, Aguayrenda is a titled Guaraní community. Guaraní traditions are also expressed there during Carnival. Arete Guazú is also associated with Aguayrenda and is considered a major Carnival celebration. Together, the mission’s history and its cultural connections form a distinct focus for anyone who wants to learn about the destination’s history and traditions as well as its landscapes. This does not imply specific event dates or current visitor access.

More landscapes in the wider Gran Chaco destination

La Galería is located in the wider Gran Chaco destination. It is a vertical formation of sandstone rich in quartz and feldspar. It rises more than 200 meters above the river and is located in the Parque Nacional y Área Natural de Manejo Integrado de la Serranía del Aguaragüe. Under Municipal Law No. 338 of Villa Montes, La Galería is designated as a natural, landscape, and scientific heritage site. The rock formation thus combines a striking geological shape with formal heritage designation.

A permit and a tourism guide are required for tourist activities in the Parque Nacional y Área Natural de Manejo Integrado de la Serranía del Aguaragüe. Confirm current procedures with the park administration before your trip. A roughly nine-kilometer vehicle route through Parque Nacional Aguaragüe leads to an observation spot on the banks of the Río Pilcomayo: Andean condors and other scavengers can be seen feeding on fish there. The period given for this is May to July; sightings are not guaranteed. The Ruta Turística del Pilcomayo is also offered in connection with Villa Montes: a 50-kilometer off-road vehicle tour for up to four people. As booking arrangements may change, it is advisable to confirm them in advance.

Activities and traces of history

At Quebrada de Tampinta, ecological excursions, hiking, camping, picnicking, nature photography, and swimming are among the tourist and recreational activities. The range therefore extends from outdoor activities and nature observation to pursuits by the water. Another historical trace is the Puerta del Infierno Verde rock formation: it was partly created during the construction of a strategic road during the Chaco War. Workers and prisoners of war cut the road into the rock. Its origin also gives the landscape a historical dimension.
