For a trip to Coroico, the local church of San Pedro y San Pablo, the Centro Cultural Tocaña, and the coffee tours described at Finca Shanti offer different cultural highlights. They are not all in the same place: the church is in Coroico, the center is in Tocaña, and the finca is in the Coroico Municipality. When looking for a vacation rental, first consider which visits will shape your stay, then choose its location to suit your specific plans.

San Pedro y San Pablo Church

San Pedro y San Pablo Church houses the Virgen de la Candelaria, the patron saint of Coroico’s residents. This connection links the church to the town’s religious culture. Those interested in this side of Coroico will find a specific point of connection here: not only the church itself, but also the veneration of its patron saint forms part of the destination’s cultural identity.

Afro-Bolivian Culture in Tocaña

A little over 45 minutes from Coroico, the Centro Cultural Tocaña is located in Tocaña. Founded in 2003, the interpretation center preserves Afro-Bolivian culture. Its themes and exhibits include Saya objects, musical instruments, and work tools; it also presents audiovisual archives. It can accommodate about 200 people.

While the church in Coroico has a religious connection, the focus in Tocaña is on sharing Afro-Bolivian culture. The displayed objects and archives make this focus tangible. If you would like to include culture in your travel plans, you can combine a connection to Coroico with a distinct focus in Tocaña.

Coffee Tours with Different Highlights

A report dated February 22, 2024, described three coffee tours at Finca Shanti in the Coroico Municipality: Espresso, Capuccino, and Lungo. The one-hour Espresso tour went around the farm and coffee fields, covering the harvest and ripe coffee cherries. The five-hour Lungo tour included the two shorter tours and added topics related to processing: coffee fermentation and washing, making Sultana, and drying the beans in covered structures.

On the Capuccino tour, visitors could harvest and hull coffee themselves, roast it, and take part in a tasting. The descriptions thus distinguish the tours by both time commitment and content: Espresso focused on the farm, fields, and harvest, while Lungo included a longer program with additional processing steps. Capuccino emphasized hands-on participation and tasting. The tours were described in 2024; check whether they are currently offered before making plans.

La Paz: Routes and Cultural Heritage Across the Wider Destination

The Parque Nacional y Área Natural de Manejo Integrado Cotapata is also within the wider destination of La Paz. The overland route to the protected area follows the La Paz–Coroico road or the Río Huarinilla valley. You can travel by bus as far as Coroico or La Cumbre; from there, the trekking route continues to the village of El Chairo. The pre-Columbian El Choro route can be used as a trail to access the protected area. If you are planning a specific hike, check current trail and access conditions.

Cotapata brings together ecological, scenic, and archaeological features; the protected area is suited to environmental education and tourism. Another route in the wider destination of La Paz is the Camino Chairo–Socosani. It continues from Puente Inca en Chairo along the lower slope of Cerro Nogalani to the ruins of Socosani. Along the way, you can see old agricultural terraces, retaining walls, and paved paths. This regional theme differs from the cultural visits and coffee tours described for Coroico and its municipality.
