Aranjuez in La Paz is closely associated with nature: the municipality has designated Parque de Aranjuez as natural and landscape heritage to preserve and protect it. This designation gives the area a distinctive character. If you are considering Aranjuez as a destination, you can factor its nature and landscape into your stay.

Nature and Birdwatching in Aranjuez

A 2021 editorial article identifies the Aranjuez, Amor de Dios and Camino del Águila areas in the city of La Paz as interesting birdwatching spots. This gives travellers who want to observe birds a specific nature focus. However, individual sightings are not guaranteed.

Paseo de Aranjuez and Its Former Uses

Paseo de Aranjuez should also be considered in the context of travel planning. A 2023 municipal report notes that people used to park, jog, walk and ride bicycles with children there. However, these activities were no longer possible there at the time of the report. These uses therefore belong to an earlier period and were already no longer possible in 2023.

Other Natural and Cultural Areas in the Wider La Paz Destination

Within the wider La Paz destination, Parque Nacional y Área Natural de Manejo Integrado Cotapata offers its own nature and route focus. Its ecological, landscape and archaeological features make it suitable for environmental education and tourism. By road, the protected area can be reached via the La Paz–Coroico road or through the Río Huarinilla valley. Bus travel is possible as far as Coroico or La Cumbre; from there, the trekking route continues to the village of El Chairo.

The pre-Columbian El Choro route can also be used as a walking route to access Cotapata. This means the wider La Paz destination offers different ways to get there: travel by road, bus routes followed by a trekking route, and a walking route to the protected area. Check current trail conditions and access options before planning the El Choro route.

Routes and Archaeological Traces

The Camino Chairo–Socosani continues from Puente Inca en Chairo along the lower slope of Cerro Nogalani to the ruins of Socosani. Along the way, you can see old agricultural terraces, retaining walls and paved paths. This distinguishes the route from El Choro, which serves as a walking route to access Cotapata: the Camino Chairo–Socosani focuses on the ruins and traces of earlier agricultural use along the way.

Tiwanaku as Another Cultural Area in La Paz

Tiwanaku is also part of the wider La Paz destination and offers a different perspective on history and the local landscape. The site lies near the southern shore of Lake Titicaca on the Altiplano, at an altitude of 3,850 metres, in Ingavi Province in the Department of La Paz. The ancient city was built mainly of adobe; most of it has been built over by the modern town. The ancient city and present-day buildings thus jointly shape the described urban layout. In contrast to Cotapata’s routes and landscapes, the focus here is on the spatial overlap of the ancient city and the modern town.

Choose a Holiday Rental to Suit Your Trip

When looking for a holiday rental, the first thing to consider is the scope of your travel plans: would you like to focus on Aranjuez itself, or should La Paz as the wider destination guide your choice?
