Bahçe combines a long history with natural attractions in the town and the surrounding district. At its center is the Ağcabey Mosque on Atatürk Square; the Şifa Pınarı recreation area lies to the north, while a castle-shaped park nestles into the hillside south of the center. If you’re looking for a holiday rental in Bahçe for your trip, you can start by considering whether local history, a stay surrounded by greenery, or excursions around the district should be your main focus.

The Mosque and the Town’s History

The Ağcabey Mosque is in the district center of Bahçe, on Atatürk Square. According to the inscription, a man named Ağcabey had it built in 1809. After several restorations, only the minaret retains its character as a historic monument. Its spiral fluting is said to reflect Mamluk and Seljuk architectural character. The building’s earlier appearance is also part of its history: the minaret is said to have once been decorated with tiles.

Bahçe’s history reaches further back. In antiquity, the town was in Cilicia and belonged to the Kargamish-Hittite kingdom around 1000 BCE. Bahçe was founded on the remains of a castle. The Derviş Paşa observation tower in one of the district’s constituent municipalities offers another, more military connection to the district’s history. Derviş Paşa, a commander under Abdülmecid, had it built in 1865 to monitor access to Bahçe district, as well as the Ayran Gorge to the east and Kanlıgeçit to the west.

Springs and Green Spaces

The Şifa Pınarı recreation area lies north of the town center, on the road to Bekdemir village. The Uyuzluk Suyu spring, a Vaucluse spring, is located there. A local belief is associated with it: its water is said to help relieve itching. Şifa Pınarı is especially popular with day-trippers on summer weekends. If you’re planning a visit, you can take this seasonal busy period into account when choosing a day.

South of the center, Arif Yaşar Fettahlıoğlu Kale Parkı sits on a hillside, overlooking Bahçe. The municipality built it in 1998 in the form of a historic castle. Its design thus echoes the castle form associated with the story of Bahçe’s founding, though the park and the original castle are not the same structure. This offers a different way to connect with local history during your stay than the Ağcabey Mosque: here, the landscaped park is the main feature, while the minaret and the building’s history are central at the mosque.

Natural Attractions in Bahçe District

There are also destinations with their own distinct character beyond the center. In Kızlaç, the approximately 450-year-old Koca Çınar is considered a cultural and natural monument. Its impressive appearance, cool shade, and cold spring water are among the reasons why it’s a suitable spot to visit and picnic. If you enjoy spending time in the shade on an outing, you’ll find a different kind of experience here than at the Şifa Pınarı spring.

The Karaoluk recreation area is in Yukarı Arıcaklı village, at the foot of Akçadağ in Bahçe district. Its distinctive natural landscape makes it a destination for local and international visitors. Together with Kızlaç and the attractions in the center, Karaoluk shows that where you stay also depends on which parts of the district you’d like to explore. The E90 and D400 highways run along the edge of Bahçe town and provide a point of reference for its location. So when choosing a holiday rental, you can first consider Bahçe itself as a destination, then decide which of the natural and cultural themes described here are important to your plans.
