Erzin between Cultural Heritage and Nature

Erzin connects a specific cultural landmark in the town with places to visit in the district and nearby area. These include a registered residential building, the coast on the Gulf of İskenderun, nature at the foot of the Amanos Mountains and an ancient archaeological site. When planning your holiday, it is worth keeping these areas distinct: not every natural or cultural attraction is located in the town itself. Cultural Heritage in Town and History Nearby

Tıbıkoğlu Konağı, a two-storey residential building from the 1940s, stands in Erzin’s Cumhuriyet neighbourhood. It is registered as a cultural property; plans were made to use it as a cultural centre. If you would like to visit the house, check in advance whether access is possible. As a tangible example of architectural history, it adds a cultural landmark in town to the natural and coastal attractions.

The ruins of the ancient city of Epiphaneia lie near Erzin and have also been called the İssos Ruins in earlier publications. The site is in the Gözeneler area and covers about 150 hectares. An amphitheatre has been excavated at the archaeological site. The İssos ruins also include surviving water channels that are 1–2 kilometres long and, in places, 7–8 metres high. The residential building and the ruins offer two different historical perspectives: a building from the 1940s on the one hand, and the extensive site of an ancient city on the other. Nature in the District: Forests, Trails and Karagöl

Şahin Tepesi Nature Park is in Erzin district, at the foot of the Amanos Mountains, and covers about 100 hectares. Green forests, fresh air and views shape the nature experience. Facilities include hiking trails, picnic areas, viewing terraces and children’s playgrounds. For an outing with children, the playgrounds and picnic areas offer practical options; the trails and terraces provide a different focus. This makes it possible to plan a day in nature around the facilities available, without treating the different activities as equivalent.

Another natural attraction in the district is Karagöl. The natural lake covers an area of 0.15 km² and lies 273 metres above sea level. Unlike the nature park, with its trails, picnic areas and viewing terraces, the lake itself is the main attraction here. Both places add different landscape experiences to your travel plans.

Coast and Thermal Springs

Burnaz Beach in Erzin district lies on the Gulf of İskenderun and is approximately 14 kilometres long. Swimming, sunbathing, water sports and picnicking are among the activities available at the beach. Sun loungers, parasols, showers and changing rooms are provided; check which of these facilities are currently available before your visit. Trekking, mountaineering and birdwatching are also possible in the area around the beach. This gives you a choice between coastal activities and excursions in the surrounding area as distinct ways to spend your time.

The Erzin-Başlamış thermal springs are three kilometres from the centre of Erzin, at the foot of the Amanos Mountains. Their hot, mineral-rich water makes them interesting to visitors. The spring and drinking waters of Erzin contain sulphate, bicarbonate, magnesium and carbon dioxide. This excursion differs from a beach day or a hike: the focus here is on the springs and their mineral composition.

Getting There and Choosing the Right Location for Your Holiday Rental

A minibus fare schedule from March 2025 lists services between Erzin and Burnaz (Deniz), as well as from Erzin to İçmeler and İSOS. A transfer service also connects Adana with the İçmeler area of Erzin and runs as far as the municipal Şifalı Sular Moteli and İsos Termal (Hattuşa).
