Gölhisar Between the Cultural House, Lake and Kibyra
Accommodation in Gölhisar
Gölhisar brings living traditions together with glimpses into local history and distinctive landscapes. A museum house, recurring festivals, Lake Gölhisar and the nearby ancient city of Kibyra reveal different sides of the destination. Orman Millet Bahçesi Park is also one of the places you can consider when planning your trip.
Culture and Traditions in Gölhisar
The Muallim Mustafa Sırrı Özkan Cultural House is set up as a museum house. It preserves Gölhisar’s past and presents local culture through ethnographic objects. The building itself is also an example of traditional Gölhisar architecture: it was built in 1928. Visitors interested in everyday culture and architectural history will find two distinct points of interest in one place.
Music is also part of the city’s cultural experiences. An event featuring concerts by regional folk musicians was held at the Cultural House. The instruments represented included wind instruments, the Kabak Kemane, Cura, Sipsi and Bağlama. The instruments offer a glimpse of the musical variety brought together at this event.
The traditional Uçurtma Şenliği, or Kite Festival, is held in Gölhisar every year on 23 April. The date coincides with the National Sovereignty and Children’s Day holiday. Another tradition is the Çörek gathering: it takes place in the Gölhisar municipality on every religious holiday and covers a total of twelve locations in the individual neighbourhoods. Both an annual fixed-date holiday and religious holidays are therefore part of local customs.
Lake, Park and Ancient City
Nearby is Kibyra, the ancient city in the Horzum neighbourhood of Gölhisar district. Its site extends across three prominent hills separated by deep gorges. This striking terrain defines Kibyra. If you are interested in history and landscapes, you can make Kibyra a focus of your trip planning.
Orman Millet Bahçesi Park offers beautiful views in all four seasons. The park includes an observation terrace, a small zoo and a large playground. This brings together different features in the park: views, animals and a designated play area. Which of these matters to your trip depends on the experiences you would like to prioritise.
Lake Gölhisar lies within the municipal area. It is shallow, with a maximum depth of 6 metres. Covering an area of 7 km², it is the most important natural lake in Gölhisar district. When making your choice, you can consider the lake as a scenic highlight alongside the cultural sites and the ancient city.
The regional cuisine also has a distinctive feature: Gölhisar Kavurması is prepared on a sac griddle in the surrounding area. A fire is lit using juniper or oak wood. This preparation method is one of the notable details that characterise the local food culture.
Getting There and Choosing Accommodation
Gölhisar lies at the junction of the Antalya–Denizli and Burdur–Fethiye highways. The town is regularly accessible from Denizli, Antalya, Isparta, Burdur and Fethiye.
When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can first decide which focus you would like to shape your trip: the museum house and local traditions, the lake and park, or the nearby ancient city of Kibyra. Check the location of a specific accommodation against your own plans. This will help you base your choice on the places and experiences that interest you most.
