Okurcalar offers different perspectives on landscape and history: the ruins of Cibra (Kibra) lie on a small peninsula and its western plain within Okurcalar; Alara Han is located in the Çakallar neighborhood. Along the coast, you’ll find sandy, pebbly, and mixed seabeds. When planning your vacation, you can therefore consider culture, walking paths, and coastal scenery as separate focal points. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide which of these themes you’d like to shape your stay.

Cibra: Ruins in a Coastal Landscape

The ruins of Cibra are notable for their surviving architectural features: cisterns, a tomb, and the remains of a quarry. They point to different aspects of the site, from water installations and burial to stone quarrying. The ruins of Cibra (Kibra) lie on a small peninsula and its western plain within Okurcalar. In front of this plain are a large bay and Tuz Island; both offer suitable landing places for boats. The coastal landscape thus adds another perspective to the archaeological theme.

Alara Han and Its Architectural Design

Alara Han, the caravanserai in Okurcalar’s Çakallar neighborhood, offers a different architectural focus. It was built during the reign of Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat Bin Keyhüsrev. The courtyard has two rows of galleries, connected by corridors with pointed barrel vaults. This layout also makes the complex interesting for travelers who want to take a closer look at its architecture: the courtyard, galleries, and connecting corridors give a tangible sense of its spatial arrangement. While Alara Han is best understood through its courtyard and vaults, the ruins of Cibra reveal themselves through several different architectural remains.

Walking Paths and Recreation Areas

Okurcalar’s recreational area is located in front of the Alara Grand Bazaar, covers 9,384 m², and has walking paths. The plan included 4,529 m² of green space and 4,855 m² of walking and recreation areas. Walking paths accessible to people with disabilities were made available to local and international visitors. Alongside the historic buildings, the recreational area is therefore another distinct focus for vacation planning. If you want to balance architecture and physical activity differently, you can consider the walking paths as a separate outing.

Differences Along the Coast

Okurcalar’s coast has sandy, pebbly, and mixed seabeds. The seabed and wave conditions can change within just a few hundred meters. Some coastal stretches can be reached through facilities or specific walking routes; access arrangements may vary. Check access to the stretch you plan to visit beforehand. For planning a coastal outing, it therefore makes more sense to focus on the specific stretch than to rely on a general picture of the entire coastline.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

When looking for a holiday apartment in Okurcalar, you can turn these differences into your own priorities: should your trip focus mainly on architecture, walking paths, or coastal scenery? Cibra and Alara Han offer different architectural features, while the recreational area and changing coastal conditions add opportunities for activity and scenery.
