Across the wider Xiangtan travel region, there is a varied range of experiences, from Qi Baishi’s art and a historic cultural and tourism street block to river landscapes and regional cuisine. These themes offer different ways to explore the area: an extensive art collection, a street block more than 1,700 years old, an ecologically distinctive river landscape, and a traditional way of preparing fish. When planning your trip, first consider which focus matters most to you. You can then use this to guide your choice of destinations and your search for a suitable holiday rental.

Art and History in the Wider Xiangtan Travel Region

The Qi Baishi Memorial Hall, dedicated to the painter, is located in Baishi Park on Dahu Road in Yuhu District. A district presentation from 2026 lists it as a national 3A-rated tourist attraction. The hall preserves dozens of Qi Baishi’s Chinese paintings and early wood carvings, as well as hundreds of works by modern and contemporary artists. This places works by the artist the hall is named after alongside a broader collection by other artists. Its artistic focus therefore extends beyond the biography of a single artist.

Yaowan offers a different emphasis: its historic cultural and tourism street block is more than 1,700 years old. While the memorial hall centres on art through its collection, Yaowan puts a historic street block in the foreground. If you are interested in historic street culture as well as art, these two places offer distinct themes to consider when planning your trip.

River Landscapes and Learning

Zhaoshan Scenic Area is in Yuetang District on the east bank of the Xiang River. It was recognised as a scenic area of Hunan Province in 1991 and as a national 4A-rated tourist attraction in 2014. It is also considered an important ecological recreation area within the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Green Heart. The focus here is on the landscape and its ecological importance. If you want to orient your trip more towards nature and river landscapes, Zhaoshan offers a distinct focus alongside art and history.

Yuetang District is also home to Panlong Grand View Garden, a national 4A-rated tourist attraction. It has also been designated a national education centre for study and learning tours for school students. This designation gives the site an explicit educational focus. Families who would like to include a learning component in their plans can take this into account.

A Xiangtan Fish Tradition

“Live fish boiled in water” is part of Xiangtan’s food culture. According to tradition, fishermen at Shibazong Wharf prepared their freshly caught fish with chilli and cooked it in a pot. The origin story brings together the catch, the ingredient and the cooking method to create a vivid picture of the regional tradition. For travellers who enjoy making food part of their discoveries, this offers a different way to experience the area from its art collection, street culture or landscapes.

Finding the Right Holiday Rental for Your Trip

When searching for a holiday rental in Xiangtan, it can help to first weigh up your interests. The memorial hall and Yaowan represent art and historic street culture; Zhaoshan offers a focus on landscapes and ecology, while Panlong Grand View Garden adds its recognised study and learning focus. Choose your accommodation based on the destinations you actually plan to include in your itinerary, and compare their locations with how you plan to spend each day. This way, your search is guided by the trip you want to take rather than by a generic type of accommodation.
