In the wider region around Huaihua, forest landscapes meet cultural sites and distinctive natural experiences. Qiongding Peak is closer to the destination and offers views across the urban landscape of Huaihua City. The options range from changing forest scenery to ceramics and regional cultural heritage.

Forests, heights and landscapes

Huangyan Tourist Resort has an average elevation of 850 metres, with its highest point at 1,174 metres. Zhongpo National Forest Park also invites visitors to take in the scenery in different seasons. Well-preserved natural secondary forests and extensive mixed forests of coniferous and broad-leaved trees shape the vegetation there. Flowers bloom in spring, greenery flourishes in summer, leaves turn red in autumn, and cypresses remain evergreen in winter. These contrasts make the forest a different kind of nature experience from the heights of Huangyan Tourist Resort.

Zhongpo National Forest Park is home to more than 100 species of wild animals and more than 690 species of woody plants from 93 families. These include over 30 nationally protected tree species. Those interested in plants and wildlife will find remarkable diversity here alongside the seasonal forest scenery. Closer to the destination, the view from Qiongding Peak offers another highlight, stretching across the urban landscape of Huaihua City.

The Huangyan Ecotourism Area features karst caves, hot springs, natural secondary forests, ecological gorges, ancient villages, agricultural land and extensive flower-filled landscapes among its natural resources. This variety brings together different natural and cultural landscapes, rather than focusing on a single forest or viewpoint.

Cultural sites and regional history

The Wuxi Scenic Area in Zhongpo National Forest Park includes 13 attractions. Examples include a Dong wind-and-rain bridge and drum tower, a Miao totem pole, Furong Tower and Swallow Cave. The scenic area also showcases Huaihua’s folk customs and distinctive architecture. Cultural sites therefore sit alongside natural scenery here; its Dong and Miao connections give visitors a different focus from the forest landscape.

At the Ceramics Museum on Tianwen Island, visitors can see Gaomiao white pottery with a history of 7,800 years. The island also preserves industrial heritage from the Huaihua Xiangwei Factory, dating from the 1960s to the 1990s. Visitor attractions include the Quzi Cultural Research and Study Base, Vanilla Workshop, Sanlü Academy, a dragon boat pier and a Qu Yuan sculpture. Ceramics, industrial history and the connection to Qu Yuan offer different ways to explore Huaihua’s culture.

Activities and different points of interest

The range of projects and facilities at the Huangyan Ecotourism Area includes forest camping, climbing, glass water slides, cliffside walkways, aerial cableway attractions and sightseeing trains. Also listed are the Sky Eye viewing platform, Huashan grass sledding and the Yaochi swimming pool. These activities are quite different from a quiet nature walk or a visit to cultural sites. Before visiting, check whether the activities you are interested in are currently operating.

At the Mountain Market on Tianwen Island, visitors can explore more than 100 representative intangible cultural heritage projects from Huaihua. Blue printing and dyeing are demonstrated there. Visitors also tried cutting paper silhouettes, including motifs of Qu Yuan and dragon boats, as well as other designs characteristic of Huaihua. If you are particularly interested in a demonstration, check the schedule in advance.

Choose a holiday rental to suit your travel interests

When looking for a holiday rental in Huaihua, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on: forests, elevations and seasonal changes, or ceramics, industrial history, and Dong and Miao culture. The activities listed at the Huangyan Ecotourism Area offer another distinct focus. This allows you to give the region’s different themes your own priorities rather than treating them as one type of outing.
