In Vienna in November 2011 it is planned to open a new railway station - Bahnhof City Wien West. The new station, which was formerly known as Westbahnhof, will open its doors after a major upgrade, which started in 2008.

Vienna railway station Bahnhof City Wien West is considered to be one of the busiest passenger railway terminals in the Austrian capital. It receives and sends trains to the Western European destinations. In particular, from here depart trains to Salzburg, Munich, Zurich, Frankfurt and other EU megacities.

The station is located in the 15th district of Vienna. The station is connected with the center of the capital by the Mariahilfer strasse. Near the station is located one of the Vienna Metro stations (lines U3 and U6). Upon completion of the reconstruction Vienna subway passengers will have direct access to the station building.

An updated station will offer its guests not only spacious waiting halls. There will also be opened a hotel and a shopping center with the total area of
17 000 square meters. In the shopping center is expected to be opened about 100 stores and restaurants.

According to derStandard.at, it is planned that the opening ceremony of the western railway station in Vienna will be held on 23 November 2011.

Modernization of the Western Railway Station Westbahnhof in Vienna is part of the program of the Austrian national railway operator to improve the transport infrastructure of the city. In addition to the Bahnhof City Wien West in the Austrian capital in the next couple of years will be opened renovated main railway station of Vienna - Hauptbahnhof. According to the plan, the complex of the main railway station in Vienna will be opened in 2014. It promises to be one of the most advanced buildings of such type in Europe.
