Ulsan brings together green landscapes, landscaped parks and whale-related experiences. Taehwagang National Garden is home to the Simni Bamboo Grove; Ulsan Grand Park offers a different focus, while Jangsaengpo is associated with a cultural site and a whale-watching cruise. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth first asking which of these aspects interests you most: nature, park facilities, or culture and the coast.

Bamboo Landscapes and Nature at Taehwagang

The Simni Bamboo Grove covers 109,866 square metres and stretches for about four kilometres. Approximately 500,000 bamboo plants grow there. Its scale makes the grove a distinctive landscape feature of a stay in Ulsan. If you want to focus on nature experiences, you can complement the bamboo grove with views of the Taehwagang: the river is known for its high biodiversity, and around 800 animal and plant species are found in its surroundings.

A separate section of the grove is the 600-metre-long Milky Way Trail. The illuminated path is open from sunset until 11 p.m., making it a special option for an evening visit. If you plan to visit during this time, check the current opening hours in advance, as they may change. This lets you consider the trail as a specific option alongside the extensive bamboo landscape, without combining the two into a single experience.

Park Facilities in Ok-dong

Ulsan Grand Park is located in the Ok-dong neighbourhood of Nam-gu and is designated as an ecological city park. Its facilities include a large swimming pool, a theme park, an outdoor concert area and a multi-purpose sports field. This brings a range of offerings together within one park: exercise and sports, a theme park, and a venue for outdoor concerts. Its character is quite different from a nature visit to the bamboo grove or an exploration of whaling culture.

When choosing your excursions, you can therefore consider whether you would rather experience a landscape or include a variety of park facilities in your trip. Grand Park offers several named attractions, while the size and bamboo groves of Simni Bamboo Grove provide a distinct focus on nature. Which option best suits your stay depends on what you personally want to discover.

Whaling Culture and the Coast in Jangsaengpo

Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village opened in 2015 and recreates the setting of an old whaling village. Its areas include Whale Plaza, Jangsaengpo Old Village, the Prehistoric Whale Experience Garden, a water plant garden and a sculpture park. The site offers several ways to explore the theme: landscaped areas, a recreated village setting and outdoor art. Visitors can also try on old school uniforms, experience black-and-white photography and make Dalgona.

If you would rather combine a boat trip with a nature theme, the Jangsaengpo Whale Watching Cruise departs from Jangsaengpo in Ulsan. Whale-watching trips and coastal tours are offered. The trip gives you the opportunity to observe whales off the coast of Jangsaengpo; however, sightings are not guaranteed. Check the current departure information for specific trips. As a seasonal option, Ulsan’s grey whale migration area is known as a place to observe large grey whales, which usually appear in winter. This is a separate note about wildlife watching, not a promise of a sighting on any particular cruise.

Choose a Holiday Rental That Suits Your Plans

When looking for a holiday rental in Ulsan, your planned experiences can be a good starting point. If you mainly want to include bamboo landscapes and nature, Simni Bamboo Grove offers a clear focus. If you are more interested in landscaped park facilities, Ulsan Grand Park is another option. For whaling culture, hands-on activities or a whale-watching trip, the experiences described in Jangsaengpo take centre stage. This way, you can base your choice on your own travel plans rather than choosing accommodation solely on a general impression of Ulsan.
