Kumi is in the spotlight as a travel destination. Geumosan is a distinctive focal point in the landscape; the mountain, reservoir, and historic sites offer different ways to shape your stay. The mountain is 976 meters high and belongs to the Sobaeksan mountain range; it was designated a provincial park in 1970. If you’re looking for a vacation rental in Kumi, you can first consider whether your trip will focus more on scenery and walks or on history and culture.

Geumosan Between Reservoir and Fortress

At the foot of Geumosan, the 2.7-kilometer-long Geumosan Olle-gil runs around the Geumoj Reservoir. The walking route includes a water deck path; the photo spot “당신은 구미의별” is also on the route. These specific stops give the idea of the landscape a framework: the mountain is more than an elevation figure—it is also connected to a particular walking route by the reservoir.

Geumosan Fortress also connects the landscape with history. This double stone-wall mountain fortress dates from the late Goryeo period and is located in Geumosan Provincial Park. Its outer wall is at an elevation of about 350 meters, halfway along the cable car route between the entrance to Geumosan and Daehyepokpo Waterfalls. The waterfalls, also known as Myeonggeum, are accessible by cable car. Check the cable car’s operating status before your trip.

Temple History and Scholars’ Lives

For a culturally focused stay, Haeunsa offers a distinct historical perspective. The temple was originally founded as Daehyeolsa toward the end of the Silla period. Its Daeungjeon Hall houses a plaster seated Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. The temple also has stone Arhat statues; their creation is attributed to Japanese craftsmen during the Japanese occupation of Korea. The temple’s founding story and its individual works of art thus offer different ways to connect with its past.

The Yaeun History Experience Center offers another historical perspective. This historical and cultural experience space focuses on the life, work, and loyalty of Giljae Yaeun, a loyal scholar of the late Goryeo period and a prominent teacher of Neo-Confucianism. Together with the fortress, the Center brings the Goryeo period into focus, while Haeunsa’s founding dates back to the late Silla period. If you enjoy exploring history through specific people and buildings, these places bring two different historical periods together.

Amusement Rides as a Travel Interest

An amusement park with various rides is located at the entrance to Geumosan Provincial Park; admission is free. In 2024, Tini핑랜드 and a Ferris wheel called Tini핑 were also established in the county. The rides add another kind of outing to the nature and culture themes.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

When choosing a vacation rental in Kumi, it may help to prioritize: would you like to focus on the mountain and the walking route by the reservoir, or are you more interested in temples, the fortress, and the history of scholars? The rides are another possible focus. This way, you can plan your stay around the experiences that matter to you instead of grouping all the places under a single travel theme.
