Get to know Yallingup through a range of experiences: walks to the beach, the history of Ngilgi Cave and Caves House, and surfing and cultural activities. Families can treat these interests as different themes when planning their holiday. The trails offer practical guidance: two loop walks differ in length and route, while a short section of trail connects gardens and beach.

Loop Walks and a Short Trail Section

The Wardanup Trail is a 6.3-kilometre loop walk around Yallingup. The route passes Ngilgi Cave and Caves House before returning to Yallingup Beach. This trail connects several of the area’s defining places, which are also important to the destination’s history. The total distance is a useful guide if you want to plan a longer walk into your day.

The Torpedo Trail is a 3-kilometre loop walk to the beach. It first follows Yallingup Brook, then climbs the hill on the return. Compared with the Wardanup Trail, the loop is shorter, but its route includes an uphill section on the way back. If you would rather plan a shorter section, the Ghost Trail is part of the Torpedo Trail: it runs from the historic gardens of Caves House to Yallingup Beach. The three routes therefore differ in length and described route, without requiring an estimated walking time.

Cave History and Gardens

Ngilgi Cave opened for candlelight tours in 1899, when it was still called Yallingup Cave. This early glimpse into the cave’s visitor history complements the place’s cultural perspective today. The Caves House Group was owned and developed by the Government of Western Australia from 1902 to 1968 to provide accommodation for visitors to Yallingup Cave. This describes its historic role; it does not imply anything about accommodation available today.

The gardens of the Caves House Group are also noteworthy: they are considered an exceptionally fine example of an Edwardian-era terraced garden. For travellers interested in designed gardens and historical context, they offer a different perspective on Yallingup than a walk or a day focused on surfing. The gardens, house group and cave bring different aspects of the area’s history into holiday planning.

Surfing and Cultural Experiences

Rabbit Hill is in the vicinity of Yallingup and is a surf area in Ngari Capes Marine Park. Yallingup Surf School offers surf lessons and surf guiding. Alongside the loop walks, it provides a distinct option for visitors interested in surfing. Rabbit Hill and the surf school represent different offerings; they do not describe a combined route.

Koomal Dreaming’s “Food, Cave and Didgeridoo Tour” brings together several cultural and nature-based elements: it includes a didgeridoo song inside Ngilgi Cave and a guided bush walk identifying local food and medicinal plants. In the wider region, Koomal Dreaming’s immersive tours allow visitors to experience Aboriginal culture from the perspective of the Traditional Owners. For families with varied interests, cave history, plant knowledge and cultural experiences can each be considered as themes for their stay.

Whether you want to focus your stay on walking trails, cave history, gardens, surfing or cultural experiences, Yallingup offers clearly distinct ways to explore. When choosing your holiday rental, you can first consider which of these experiences you want to make the focus of your trip.
