Legana at the southern end of the Tamar Valley
Accommodation in Legana
60 hectares of mudflats, lagoons and islands define the Tamar Island Wetlands. The wetland is home to diverse plant and animal life and gives Legana a special connection to nature. On the edge of Legana is the Tamar Valley Wetlands Centre, from where a 500-metre boardwalk leads through estuarine wetlands to a bird-watching platform. Visitors interested in wetlands and birdwatching will find this a particular focus for their stay.
The Tamar Island Wetlands are subject to access restrictions from 6 July 2026 to 17 December 2026: the track is partially closed while two bridges and a section of the track are replaced. The Tamar Island Wetlands Centre and the track to the bird-watching platform remain open. This information helps visitors plan a visit during this period, without mistaking the partial closure for a complete closure.
Wine, food and fermentation
Food and drink interests can also play a role in planning a trip. The Bellebonne Cellar Door at Evenfall is located at 2 Upper McEwans Rd, Legana. Wine tastings and wine sales are offered there Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm. Timbre is a place to eat and drink in Legana. Its ever-evolving food and drink menus are shaped by a local community of diners, producers and gardeners. FermentHQ in Legana advertises upcoming fermentation workshops. These offer a range of culinary experiences: tastings and wine sales, food and drink, and advertised workshops.
Play and sports facilities in Legana
Several places offer different opportunities for exercise and recreation. Tanner Drive Reserve has a fenced off-leash area for dogs and two swings. Jelisa Court Playground has a bike track, picnic tables, a slide and two swings. Orchards Estate Playground focuses on nature play and also offers opportunities for ball sports, slides and a flying fox. Families with children can distinguish between these places by their specific facilities; visitors travelling with a dog will find the designated fenced off-leash area at Tanner Drive Reserve.
Legana Recreation Youth Space includes a recreation area with a cricket pitch. Legana Sports Oval has a full-sized sports oval and also a cricket pitch. Use of the oval is also described in terms of timing and community: during school hours, it can be used by the school community, and outside school hours by the wider community. This distinguishes it from the playgrounds and off-leash area, without treating all recreation areas as the same.
