Yamba: Coast, History and River
Accommodation in Yamba
Yamba combines beach experiences with history, water activities and regional seafood. There is also an ocean pool at Main Beach and the Yuraygir National Park nearby. When planning your trip, it’s worth first considering which of these aspects of the town matter most to you: coastal views, a walk to historic sites, activities on the water or cycling.
Coast and views
At the southern end of Yamba’s Main Beach is an ocean pool built into the rocks. Yamba Ocean Pool is at Main Beach. This makes the beach and pool some of the distinctive coastal spots that define Yamba. Yamba Lighthouse on Pilot Hill offers panoramic views across the surrounding beaches, the river mouth and Yamba Bay. If you enjoy taking in different coastal views during your stay, these are some specific ideas for planning your holiday: the beach, ocean pool and lookout offer different perspectives, so you don’t have to settle on just one type of landscape.
Yamba Hill and its history
“Walk 1 – Up, down and all around” takes you to historic sites on Yamba Hill. The walk is 4 km long, easy-paced and moderate in difficulty; it takes about two hours. Knowing the distance and duration helps you factor this outing into your daily itinerary. If you’re interested in history, you can include the walk in your holiday plans and consider the route itself part of the experience. The present-day Yamba Lighthouse was built in 1955. Together, the walk and lighthouse give your stay a historical dimension alongside its coastal attractions, without requiring you to dedicate an entire holiday day to a single theme.
Yuraygir National Park nearby
Nearby Yamba, between Yamba and Coffs Harbour, is Yuraygir National Park. The 65 km Yuraygir Coastal Walk runs through the park. The park has the longest stretch of undeveloped coastline in the state of New South Wales. The length of the walk makes it a distinct option for anyone who wants to include a longer coastal hike in their trip. It’s a different kind of outing from the 4 km walk on Yamba Hill: the two routes differ considerably in their stated distances. This lets you weigh up whether the shorter historic walk or the long coastal walk better suits your plans.
Water, cycling and regional cuisine
There are various fishing opportunities in Yamba, as well as boat charters and river cruises. These are different options for including water activities in your stay. If you’d rather get around by bike, there are cycle paths that run largely from one end of Yamba to the other. So, alongside the coastal attractions, there’s water and exercise to enjoy. Fresh, locally caught fish and seafood are available in Yamba. These activities and regional cuisine may also influence your choice of holiday accommodation in Yamba.
