Hallidays Point is a destination for days shaped by the coast and being active: at Diamond Beach, you can fish, surf and enjoy long walks; horse riding is also permitted there. If you’d like to include a walk alongside time at the beach, there’s a specific connection: a walking track leads from the southern end of Diamond Beach to Shelley Beach at Red Head. This brings together different ways to experience the coast – from spending time by the water to following a named track.

Beaches with their own features

Black Head Beach is patrolled in summer and also has a saltwater pool. Both features may influence your choice of beach: you can combine your beach visit with time at the pool, while bearing in mind that patrols are mentioned for summer. At Diamond Beach, fishing, surfing, long walks and horse riding are possible. If you like to include different activities in your trip, the two beaches offer different options without requiring you to settle on just one way to enjoy the coast.

Trails through coastal landscapes and rainforest

Hallidays Point’s walking track network stretches from Khappinghat in the north to Darawank Nature Reserve in the south. The tracks pass through forests, along rocky coastlines, over headlands, through parks and beside lagoons. This variety gives you a clear choice of landscapes when planning your walks: you can choose forests, coastal sections or paths beside lagoons. There isn’t automatically a single route connecting these places; the track that begins south of Diamond Beach and leads to Shelley Beach at Red Head is one specifically named option among the coastal experiences.

You’ll encounter distinctive natural features at the beaches: Black Head Beach has a rainforest walk through striking coastal landscapes and rare stands of littoral rainforest. At Red Head Beach – the northern end of Black Head Beach – a rainforest walk also passes through striking coastal landscapes and these rare rainforest stands. This means you can look beyond the open beach to walks featuring rainforest and coastal scenery as distinct experiences in their own right.

A flat circuit or time at the skate park

The Black Head Lagoon Track is an easy, flat walking track suitable for children on bicycles. It’s a clearly described option if you’re looking for a flat route and children will be riding their bikes. Black Head Skate Park is also located in Wylie Breckenridge Park and is suitable for all skill levels. The walking track and skate park appeal to different interests: one offers a flat route, while the other provides a place to skate that is explicitly suitable for all skill levels.

A market visit and local baked goods

The Black Head Markets are held at Wylie Breckenridge Park on the first Sunday of each month from September to May. If a market visit fits your travel plans, you can time your stay around this schedule: both the first Sunday and the period from September to May are key. The park is also home to Black Head Skate Park, so two described recreational offerings are located at the same named place, even though they provide different experiences.

For a culinary discovery, The Point Bakery and Cafe in the Hallidays Point community shopping centre serves gourmet pies, cakes and sourdough bread. The selection ranges from savoury pies to sweet baked goods and bread. Together with the beach, walking tracks, market and skate park, this makes for a trip where you can plan your days around nature, activity or a market visit.

More places to discover: Manning Point, Rainbow Flat, Tallwoods Village, Koorainghat, Taree, Wingham and Harrington.
