Explore Pulaski in different ways: outdoors on the Dora Trail, and through its theater, railroad, and local history. Peak Creek flows through the heart of downtown, and the Dora Trail connects the New River Trail with downtown at Pulaski Railway Station. Outdoor activities and cultural attractions offer different ways to shape your stay.

Cycling and Trails Around Pulaski

The Dora Trail is a route for cyclists and pedestrians. Its scenic 2.5-mile route passes through Kiwanis Park and Heritage Park, follows Peak Creek, and reaches the New River Trail near its northern terminus. The Dora Trail also connects the New River Trail with downtown Pulaski at Pulaski Railway Station.

Free parking and restrooms are available on the Dora Trail at Pulaski Railway Station. There is also a bike shop offering sales, service, and rentals. Since these services are subject to change, it’s best to check what’s available before your visit. Pulaski’s cycling options also include an adventure bike park and the Draper Mountain Bike Trail.

History and Architecture

Pulaski Theatre combines entertainment with a commitment to preserving its historic building. Originally called Elks Theatre, the building was constructed in downtown Pulaski in 1911. Its early uses included vaudeville shows, performances by traveling troupes, and early silent films. It later served as a department store for 15 years. In 1937, it was leased and renovated by Neighborhood Theater, Inc. of Richmond, Virginia; it opened as Pulaski Theatre, a movie theater, on November 11 of that year. Today, the theater offers affordable entertainment and continues its commitment to preserving the building.

Pulaski County Courthouse also reflects changing times: it was originally built in 1896 and rebuilt after a fire in December 1989. Its architecture features elements of the Richardsonian Romanesque and Queen Anne styles. Built from Peak Creek granite in 1888, Pulaski Train Depot is also known as the “Grand Old Lady of Pulaski.”

Pulaski Railway Station brings the region’s railroad history to life through model trains and local history exhibits. Raymond F. Ratcliffe Transportation Museum offers a broader perspective on local history: it preserves significant artifacts and tells the story of Pulaski and the surrounding region.

Creative murals in public spaces and local businesses are also part of the townscape. Peak Creek flows through the heart of downtown; along the Dora Trail, you’ll encounter the creek again as it follows the route. Together, these attractions offer different themes to shape your trip: outdoor activity, railroad history, architecture, and local art.
