Hilliard combines places that recall the city’s history with an unusual look at early television technology and a variety of ways to spend time outdoors. Hilliard’s Station Park marks the site of a former train station and the original town square. The park has splash fountains; the Early Television Museum is right next door. This places a historic landmark and a collection of technological history side by side.

Television History and Historic Sites

The Early Television Museum displays more than 150 television sets. The collection includes mechanical televisions from the 1920s and 1930s, as well as early electronic British sets from 1936 to 1939 and early electronic American sets from 1939 to 1941. It also features postwar sets from 1945 to 1958 and early color televisions from 1953 to 1957. Anyone interested in the history of television will find a broad span of time represented here: from mechanical sets to early color televisions.

Hilliard Ohio Historical Village is located on the edge of Old Hilliard. The Historical Society offers tours of Hilliard’s Historical Village at selected times. Historical Village & Museum at Weaver Park offers a different historical focus: it is an authentic historic village in the style of the 1850s. The buildings and facilities listed there include a one-room schoolhouse, a log cabin, a train station with a caboose, a barn, a farm workshop, and a church. The Hilliard History Express shares local history through stories about local landmarks, significant places, and people who shaped the city.

Memorial sites also tell of different aspects of the past. First Responders Park in Old Hilliard is a 9/11 memorial featuring two twisted steel sections from the World Trade Center. Merchant Park honors the first African American family believed to have settled in what is now Hilliard.

Trails, Parks and Activities

Homestead features a covered bridge, a replica of a train station, and two barns. A three-quarter-mile paved trail there connects with the 6.1-mile Heritage Rail Trail. This multi-use trail starts in Old Hilliard on Main Street and heads toward Plain City. Hilliard’s parks and the city also have paved trails and nature paths.

Other recreational offerings have different highlights. Hilliard Family Aquatic Center has a leisure pool, a lap pool, a slide pool with two slides, a lazy river, and an interactive children’s pool. Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park has an 18-hole disc golf course. The park also has an inclusive playground with equipment that can be used by children with different abilities. Heritage Trail Park has a 4-acre fenced dog park with separate areas for active and less active dogs. Each of these places offers its own reason to include parks and activities in your travel plans.

Hilliard’s historic sites, trails, and recreational offerings appeal to a range of interests.
