Nez Perce National Historical Park encompasses 38 sites significant to the history and culture of the Nimíipuu. First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park commemorates what is believed to be North America’s largest bison jump site and recalls that Indigenous peoples used this place for at least 2,000 years. A trail, a protected black-tailed prairie dog colony, exhibitions on buffalo culture, a storytelling circle, a gallery and a bookstore round out the visit.

Those interested in prehistoric times can explore Montana’s prehistoric inhabitants at 14 locations along the Montana Dinosaur Trail. At Makoshika State Park, badland formations interspersed with pine and juniper meet dinosaur fossils, including Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops. Old Trail Museum also displays fossils, dinosaurs, artifacts of Indigenous American peoples, grizzly bears and local history.
