Johnson County: Warrensburg, Lakes, and Museums
Accommodation in Johnson County
Johnson County has several destinations with different points of interest. The pages for Warrensburg and Knob Noster help with local orientation; the county page does not guarantee accommodation at every destination.
History and University
The original Johnson County Courthouse, built in 1842, was the setting for the Old Drum trial of 1870. The 1838 Courthouse houses a special exhibit about Civil War events in Johnson County. The McClure Archives and University Museum is the University of Central Missouri’s official archive for ethnographic, historical, and textile artifacts from around the world. The UCM Gallery of Art & Design presents between 12 and 20 fine art exhibitions per academic year. The exhibition frequency is information provided by the gallery, not a confirmed schedule for your travel dates.
Nature in the County
Hazel Hill Lake is a 71-acre lake in Johnson County, with an accessible fishing pier, a parking lot, and a restroom building. The J. N. Turkey Kearn Memorial Wildlife Area in Johnson and Pettis Counties includes two fishing lakes measuring 9 and 25 acres, respectively. The J. N. Turkey Kearn Memorial Wildlife Area includes wooded hills, floodplains, farmland, and areas of native grasses. Hazel Hill Lake and the Wildlife Area are separate locations; the bodies of water should not be combined into a single lake.
Compare your vacation rental’s address with the museum, hiking, or fishing destination you have in mind. Access, rules, and current events each require separate verification.
