Shoreview combines expansive parks and open spaces with outdoor ice rinks, indoor water attractions and summer events. When searching for a vacation rental, it helps to consider your travel dates and preferred activities together.
Parks and Trails in Shoreview
Shoreview has 16 parks: 11 city parks and five county parks. More than 1,400 acres of parks and open spaces make up 18 percent of the city’s area. Park counts and land shares may change over time as the inventory changes. The city also has more than 60 miles of trails and sidewalks connecting most residential neighborhoods with parks, schools and commercial areas. The parkland shows the extent of the open spaces; the trail network connects residential neighborhoods with several types of destinations.
Seasonal Ice Skating and Water Attractions
Seven outdoor ice rinks have supervised warming houses. At all seven listed locations, areas for hockey or general skating are lit. The offering is seasonal. Before visiting, check the latest local information if you’re planning to skate.
At the Shoreview Community Center, Tropics and Bamboo Bay offer different experiences. The indoor water park Tropics has a large waterslide, water basketball and water volleyball, floating play features and a whirlpool. Bamboo Bay is a tropical-themed pool with a zero-depth entry, slides, tipping buckets and spray features. It is especially suited to children up to and including age ten.
Comparing the two helps you choose a water experience: Tropics combines a waterslide, ball games and a whirlpool; Bamboo Bay offers a zero-depth entry, tipping buckets and spray features. For travelers with children up to and including age ten, Bamboo Bay is the option specifically associated with an age group, while the listed features at Tropics focus on other activities.
Summer Events and Local History
Slice of Shoreview is an annual festival held in July. The program includes a carnival, parade, arts and crafts market, food stands, demonstrations, entertainment and fireworks. Dates and schedules may vary; check the latest information if you want to plan your trip around the festival.
For the 2026 summer season, the city described free outdoor concerts at Shoreview Commons featuring a variety of music and drawing hundreds of visitors; at the same time, it announced that the series would return the following summer.
Travelers with dogs also have a specific place to visit: south and west of Lexington Avenue, in the Rice Creek North Regional Trail corridor, there is a 13-acre off-leash dog area.
Heritage Park in Shoreview is home to the historic Guerin Gas Station and the historic Lepak-Larson House. A nature playground and a plaza-style skate park were completed in 2020 behind the Community Center at Shoreview Commons. Alongside the water attractions and events, named historic buildings and earlier improvements at the Commons offer different points of interest for planning a trip.
Two different timing markers stand out when planning: Slice of Shoreview takes place annually in July, while ice skating is seasonal.
