Morris at Bantam Lake: Nature and History
Accommodation in Morris
Morris combines farmland and protected open spaces with Bantam Lake. The lake is a landscape feature; that does not automatically mean you can spend time by the water or use Town Beach freely.
Lake and Recreation Complex
Morris includes farmland, protected open spaces, and hilly terrain around Bantam Lake, Connecticut’s largest natural lake. The Morris Town Beach Recreational Complex has a beach and picnic area on the southern shore of Bantam Lake. The Morris Town Beach Recreational Complex includes a full-size multipurpose football and soccer field, another soccer field, a Little League baseball/softball field, and a basketball court. At the northern end of Bantam Lake is land protected by the White Memorial Foundation that provides habitat for a wide variety of bird species. The complex offers a range of sports facilities; access and rules for the beach and facilities should be checked for current information.
Museum and Local History
The Morris Historical Society maintains the Old Town Hall Museum. The Old Town Hall Museum features exhibits on agriculture and industry, including ice cutting on Bantam Lake. The James Morris Museum & Aline Brothier Morris Reading Room offers insights into the Morris Family Collection. The museums and reading rooms are separate institutions with their own visitor requirements.
Choose your vacation rental based on its actual address and check which lake or museum destinations are accessible and open. Protected status north of the lake does not guarantee bird sightings.
