Icamole is part of the “Región Arqueológica” tourist route in Nuevo León. It invites you to explore landscapes and flavors shaped by a cultural history spanning thousands of years. Several perspectives come together here to help you plan your trip: the town’s history, past guided visits, and themes related to the landscape and regional products.

Flower Field and Riverbank

A guided visit to a cempasúchil flower field took place in the Ejido Icamole. The history and origins of the flower were explained during the visit. The topic therefore extended beyond the field itself to include the plant’s cultural significance. If you would like to plan this visit in particular, check before traveling whether it is currently being offered.

A previous tour led by municipal tourism staff went to the riverbank. In contrast to the flower field visit, the focus there was on a waterside location; at the field, the flower and its history took center stage. The two guided experiences therefore differ in subject matter. Check in advance whether a similar tour is currently being offered.

Rock Art Site and Surroundings

One route to the Icamole rock art site begins in the community of Icamole and is called “La Presa.” If you are planning to visit, check current access and trail conditions beforehand. The Ánima de Anacahuita chapel is about two kilometers from Icamole. If you would like to include it in your stay, find out in advance whether visits are possible.

The landscape’s history is also tied to specific events: the dam serving the water supply of the Ejido Icamole was destroyed by the floods caused by Hurricane Alex in mid-2010. This was a significant setback in the history of local infrastructure, not simply another stop on a current tour itinerary.

The Battle of Icamole

On May 20, 1876, a battle took place in Icamole during the Revolution of Tuxtepec. The forces of Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada and Porfirio Díaz were involved. After his defeat at Icamole, Díaz became known as “El Llorón de Icamole.” The date, the sides involved, and the nickname give the town’s history a clear historical reference point. History enthusiasts can connect a specific event with a story that remains linked to Icamole to this day.

Barley and Regional History

Icamole’s past also includes agriculture. During a period of agricultural growth, a large share of the barley for Cervecería Cuauhtémoc in Monterrey was produced there. This adds an economic and agricultural perspective to the tourist route’s themes of flavor and culture: barley connects local production with a brewery in Monterrey. This is a historical connection that adds depth to the region’s history.

Choose a Suitable Base for Your Trip

When looking for a vacation rental in Icamole, you can first consider which perspective you would like to shape your stay: the battle and the town’s history, the connection between agriculture and regional flavors, or the landscape and cultural themes featured on the route. These themes can help you organize your own itinerary without turning it into a fixed sequence of excursions. Check separately whether past guided tours and a visit to the rock art site are available before making them the focus of your plans. This way, you can choose where to stay based on your interests and on the visit options that have actually been confirmed.
