Fray Bernardino De Sahagún: Mural and City History
Accommodation in Fray Bernardino De Sahagún
You can get to know Ciudad Sahagún through tangible traces of its history: a mural captures the city’s original design, while its industrial history and a paper balloon festival reveal other facets. During your stay in Fray Bernardino De Sahagún, these themes offer different ways to focus your visit—on the city’s history, a shared cultural program, or leisure time in the park. If you’re traveling with family, you can tailor your search for a vacation rental to whichever of these experiences you want to shape your days.
A Mural with Several Layers of History
The mural “El Nacimiento de Ciudad Sahagún” is located at the Fray Bernardino de Sahagún elementary school in Ciudad Sahagún and was created in 1958. It depicts Ciudad Sahagún according to its original design and shows the five original neighborhoods: Abecedario, Carros de Ferrocarril, Sidena, Dina, and IMSS. The depiction is not entirely accurate; nevertheless, the city design and the named neighborhoods make the mural a window into the city’s history.
Another subject depicted is the Franciscan aqueduct, which carried water from Alcantarillas to Tepeapulco between 1541 and 1545. The mural is in very good condition; its lower section is protected by a metal grille. If you want to see the original in person, check in advance whether a visit to the school is possible and confirm its condition.
Industrial History and a Paper Balloon Festival
The industrial history also has names associated with it: DINA was the first company to establish itself in the Fray Bernardino de Sahagún industrial zone. The presence of railway lines and power lines was among the reasons for choosing the site for the Ciudad Sahagún industrial project. These historical details tell the story of the site selection and early establishment, not of a current travel option.
The Hidalgo Paper Balloon Festival offered a different picture of the place. At the sixth festival, in 2013, more than 1,500 paper creations filled the sky over Ciudad Sahagún. The IMSS soccer stadium served as the venue, and more than 10,000 people attended the spectacle. The industrial history and the festival highlight different aspects: the development of an industrial project on the one hand, and a major community event in 2013 on the other.
Classes and Leisure at Parque Recreativo Guadalupe
The Centro Cultural Grupo Hidalgo offers classes, workshops, and activities for the whole family in Ciudad Sahagún. If you’re planning an activity to enjoy together, check the current schedule and availability in advance, as both may change. Classes and workshops give your stay a different focus from exploring the city’s history.
Parque Recreativo Guadalupe is a municipal recreation center in Ciudad Sahagún. In a November 2025 notice about its rehabilitation, the municipality of Tepeapulco described it as one of its most emblematic places. A 2017 report mentions green spaces, a pond, barbecue areas, cabins, and children’s play areas. Before visiting, check the current condition and access before including this older list of facilities in your plans.
These offer different options: classes and workshops at the cultural center, or a recreational facility whose amenities were documented in an older report. This distinction can help with your vacation rental search if you first decide whether a planned cultural program or leisure time in the park should play a bigger role in your family’s stay.
