Regina offers different ways to experience a trip: Wascana Centre is all about parkland, a lake and trails, while museums and historic sites open up other subjects to explore. You can shape your trip around whether you enjoy spending time outdoors, discovering art and culture, or learning about Saskatchewan’s history.

Parkland, Birdlife and Gardens

Wascana Centre is a 930-hectare urban park in Regina that surrounds a 120-hectare lake. Its size and the lake give time spent outdoors a distinctive focus. The protected Natural Habitat area within Wascana Centre is home to 46 breeding bird species. Anyone interested in birdlife can find a direct connection with nature here, right in the middle of Regina.

The Edwardian Gardens offer paved, accessible trails that everyone can explore. At the Regina Floral Conservatory, visitors can enjoy lush greenery, colourful flowers and the scents of a peaceful garden. Both places appeal to garden enthusiasts, but offer different experiences: the Edwardian Gardens invite you to explore their trails, while the Conservatory focuses on plants and floral displays.

You can also plan to get active at Wascana Centre: it has more than 10 km of trails designated for different activities, including walking, running and cycling. Canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are also available to rent at the Centre. This gives you the choice between trails on land and an activity on the water, depending on what appeals more to your travel group.

Art, Cultures and Natural History

The Indigenous Gallery explores the history and traditions of Indigenous societies in Saskatchewan. It presents their relationship with the land over a period of 10,000 years. This gives a visit to the gallery a distinctive thematic focus: it centres on both cultural traditions and a long-standing connection to the land and environment.

Exhibitions at the MacKenzie Art Gallery change over time. Its focus is on Indigenous and contemporary art; it also presents selected historical and international works. Art enthusiasts can discover a variety of exhibition styles here, rather than focusing on just one subject.

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum explores Saskatchewan’s natural history and the cultures of Indigenous people, past and present. It is also home to Scotty, the largest known Tyrannosaurus rex in the world. Natural history, cultural subjects and this dinosaur make the museum a destination in its own right for travellers who want to explore more than one subject area.

Historic Sites and Tours

The RCMP Heritage Centre is next to the historic site of the RCMP Academy, known as Depot Division. Every Mountie has been trained at Depot Division since 1885. Government House is a national historic site in Regina and offers tours, engaging programs and informative exhibits. Tours of the Legislative Building introduce visitors to its history and artworks. Each of these places focuses on a different aspect of history: Mountie training, Government House, and the history and art of the Legislative Building.

When choosing a vacation rental in Regina, consider which of these interests you would like to shape your trip most: time at Wascana Centre, art and museums, or historical subjects.

If you’d like to consider other destinations, you can also find Humboldt, Redvers, Moose Jaw, Assiniboia, Carrot River and Saskatoon.
