Lafleche offers several ways to get to know the community: a music festival featuring singing and piano, exhibits on local history, and activities involving ice and exercise. There is also a splash pad and social games. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on culture, sports, or a mix of both.

Music and Local History

The Lafleche & District Music Festival offers a week-long program of vocal and piano performances. The festival also includes the Adrian Frank Competition and a closing concert. If music is your main interest, you’ll find more than a single performance here: the program features a variety of musical performances and a competition. The week-long duration is a useful guide if you want to plan your trip around the festival.

The Lafleche and District Museum features exhibits on local history. Topics include settlers’ lives, the military, a general store, a blacksmith shop and school life. These varied themes offer a look at work and supplies as well as everyday life and education. If you’re travelling with children, you can use these specific topics as conversation starters and consider which aspects of local history interest them most.

Ste. Radegonde Roman Catholic Church is also part of Lafleche’s history: it was built in 1922. Alongside the museum exhibits, it offers another topic of cultural and historical interest. Together with the music festival, the community offers a cultural mix of music, local life and a historic church building, so your stay doesn’t have to focus on just one kind of discovery.

Ice Sports and Exercise

The Lafleche Community Center offers public skating and hockey programs for all ages. If you’d like to include ice sports in your travel plans, you can make these activities a focus of your trip. They complement the community’s cultural attractions and offer a different way to shape your stay.

The Lafleche Curling Club has three sheets of ice and hosts an annual bonspiel competition on the first weekend of February. The bonspiel gives you a specific date to plan around: for anyone interested in curling, the first weekend of February is the relevant time. The three sheets belong to the club and should not be confused with the activities at the Community Center. This makes it possible to consider curling and public skating as distinct ice sports.

Lafleche has a splash pad in the sport grounds area. This adds a water-based activity to the options, while skating, hockey and curling are ice sports. For families, it may be helpful to weigh these different interests when planning, rather than treating all the activities as one combined program.

Taekwondo is also offered twice a week in the basement of the Catholic church at 5 4th Ave. W. Participants take part in tournaments according to their individual plans. This gives anyone interested in martial arts another aspect of sports life in the community to explore. The tournament reference is based on participants’ individual plans and does not indicate a fixed event schedule.

Social Games

Lafleche Club 50 offers card games and shuffleboard, carpet bowling and pool. Alongside music, local history and sports, social games provide another option for visitors. When choosing a focus for your trip, consider whether you’d prefer to centre it on performances and exhibits, exercise or games.

You can also explore Gravelbourg for another community name.
