Waskesiu Lake combines trails through the village and its surroundings with beach experiences, water sports, and insights into the natural and cultural history of Prince Albert National Park. The resort village is located on the eastern side of the park. For families who like to include a range of activities in their trip, Waskesiu Lake offers several specific options.

Loop Trails and Forest Sections

Red Deer Trail consists of three loops with a total length of 19 km. They run around the village of Waskesiu and along the eastern shore of Waskesiu Lake. The trail begins at The Rock, at the corner of Waskesiu Drive and Lakeview Drive. If you like to combine your time outdoors with a clearly defined trail route, you can take the three loops and their total length into account when planning your day.

On the Red Loop, the trail passes Prospect Point, Waskesiu Lobstick Golf Course, and some of Waskesiu’s oldest cabins. It then enters the mixed forests south of the village. This section therefore alternates between named landmarks in the village and a forested area. Fisher Trail also begins within the village of Waskesiu.

Beach, Getting Oriented, and Parking

Waskesiu Main Beach is a 600-metre-long sandy beach in the centre of Waskesiu. The Visitor Centre is opposite the main beach, next to The Rock. The Rock is also the starting point for Red Deer Trail. If you would like to get your bearings first, you’ll find these two landmarks at the specified corner of Waskesiu Drive and Lakeview Drive.

Parking at the main beach and community hall is available daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.; overnight parking is not permitted there. Additional parking is available across from the Friends of the Park Bookstore and along the street in Waskesiu. If you’re travelling by car, it’s worth keeping the overnight parking restriction in mind when planning your day.

Experiences on and by the Water

You can paddle at Waskesiu Main Beach and other beaches in the park. Motorboat fishing, water skiing, and wakeboarding are possible on Waskesiu Lake. Waskesiu Marina Adventure Centre offers interpretive tours and boat rentals. The options range from a paddling trip to activities involving motorboats or water skiing; consider what kind of water experience suits your stay.
