Rosetown: History, Trails and Leisure

Rosetown combines insights into the town’s history with trails and leisure activities to suit different travel interests. At the Rosetown & District Museum, buildings and collections tell the story of Rosetown and its surroundings. The Rose Trail offers another way to add some activity to your stay, while seasonal events provide additional highlights.

Local History in Buildings and Photographs

The Rosetown & District Museum includes a teacherage, a one-room schoolhouse, a fire hall, a wind charger, a jail and a fully operational blacksmith shop. The different buildings offer several historical points of interest during a museum visit. The grounds also include a fully restored two-and-a-half-storey catalogue house dating from 1923. A tea room is located in the basement.

The Rosetown Historical Walk also focuses on the town’s past: it features 32 buildings with plaques recalling the history of the former business locations. Those especially interested in the development of Rosetown and its surroundings can find more than 600 preserved photographs of regional pioneers in the Rosetown Archives. The museum, walking tour and archives each offer a different focus—from historic buildings and former business locations to photographic memories.

Out and About on the Rose Trail

The Rose Trail is a multi-use trail for walking, jogging and cycling, intended for people of all ages and fitness levels. It is approximately 6.0 kilometres long. Whether you plan to use the trail for a run, a bike ride or a walk, it adds an active experience to your history-focused visits.

For time in the water during the summer months, the Rosetown Leisure Aquatic Centre offers a heated outdoor pool. The entry is step-free and starts at zero depth. Children’s swimming lessons are also held there during the summer months. Alongside the trail, swimming and lessons offer additional leisure options.

Events Throughout the Year

The Rosetown Harvest Family Festival is an annual, family-oriented week of events. It begins on the Thanksgiving weekend in October. In December, painted displays and festive lights are set up at Rosetown Winter Wonderland Park in Lovett Park, around the Rosetown Library. The two offerings differ in occasion and season: the festival takes place in October, while the lights and displays mark the December season.

Sports activities also play a part. In winter, the AGT Foods Centre offers indoor sports such as hockey, curling and figure skating. Its heated stands seat more than 2,000 spectators. The Rosetown Sports Grounds include five irrigated baseball diamonds, a beach volleyball court, soccer fields and a riding arena. The arena hosts riding club events, the 4-H Horse Club and other equestrian activities.

The Sports Grounds also have an outdoor ice rink that can be used in the evenings when weather permits. It is usually set up from late November or early December until late February or early March. This timeframe is a seasonal guide for planning your trip; use of the rink remains dependent on suitable weather.

The Rosetown Tourist Centre offers an 18-hole mini-golf course. Its staff can also provide information about local attractions. About 6 kilometres west of Rosetown is the Rosetown Golf and Country Club, an 11-hole links-style golf course.
