Discover La Conception
Accommodation in La Conception
La Conception combines active days outdoors with special insights into the village center. At Lac Boisseau, activities range from rock climbing and hiking to non-motorized water sports. There is also paddling along a 12 km route and seasonal activities on the Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord. Those interested in architecture and local religious buildings can also include the Église de l’Immaculée-Conception and the reception hall on the Pont Godin in their travel plans.
At Lac Boisseau: Climbing, Hiking, and Water
The Lac Boisseau area is intended for family-friendly outdoor recreation and welcomes climbers, hikers, and users of non-motorized water sports. For climbing enthusiasts, it offers 35 rock-climbing routes graded from 5.7 to 5.13c; most are designed for sport climbing.
Long-distance hikers can also include Lac Boisseau in their stage plans: the area lies at the junction of the “Alléluia” and “l’Héritage” sections of the Sentier National and serves as a starting or ending point. The lake is therefore not only a place for recreation but also a named reference point for hikes on these sections. Its role on your own trip depends on whether you want to start or end your hike there.
Paddling and Your Own Watercraft
Pause Plein Air rents out canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards in La Conception. The company also offers a 12 km paddling route: it starts at La Conception’s public launch site and ends at the company’s location. The route gives you a specific distance to factor into your day’s plans. If you are considering different types of paddling, you can choose between a canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard; this does not specify a particular boat for the route.
You can also launch your own watercraft at Lac Boisseau using a dock. Gasoline engines are prohibited. Keep this rule in mind when deciding whether to bring your own watercraft; the area is also oriented toward non-motorized water sports.
Seasonal Trails and River Scenery
The Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord can be used for cycling in summer and cross-country skiing in winter in the La Conception area. The linear park complements the activities at Lac Boisseau with a seasonal focus.
The landscape also includes the Rivière Rouge. The Montagne d’Argent campground is located on its banks in La Conception. At Lac Boisseau, there are wilderness campsites along the trails around the lake and five “Prêts-à-camper” accommodations. These overnight options are distinct from searching for a vacation rental or cottage, but they show that an outdoor stay in La Conception can take different forms.
Village Center and Architecture
At the heart of the village center stands the Église de l’Immaculée-Conception, a Catholic place of worship built in 1952 and 1953. A covered passage connects the church to the rectory. Its location in the village center and this architectural connection make it a prominent landmark in La Conception. For travelers interested in church architecture as well as outdoor activities, it adds a cultural dimension to the area’s nature and sports offerings.
Another architectural feature is the reception hall on the Pont Godin, built in 2003. Its architecture recalls the covered bridge that once spanned the Rivière Rouge. These are two structures from different periods: today’s reception hall and the former bridge that inspired its design. Together with the church, the reception hall offers another reason to explore the built environment during your stay.
