The rivers L’Assomption, des Mille-Îles and des Prairies meet in Charlemagne, along with the St. Lawrence River. Parks, cycling routes, winter activities and heritage tours each offer a different focus. When planning your vacation, it is therefore worth first considering whether you are looking for sports activities, outdoor trails or insight into local history.

Parks with a range of activities

Parc de la Presqu’île has a skatepark and water play facilities. This gives you two different options for planning your day: an activity on wheels and water-based play. Parc des Rives also has water play facilities. Water play is therefore a common feature to consider when planning your day.

Other parks offer different features. Parc Jacques-Laurin has a lighted baseball field. Parc Médéric-Lebeau has a multisport court for pickleball and dek hockey. If your travel group has a range of sporting interests, you can choose an activity that suits you. Parc du Petit-Bois-des-Pères has a walking trail, adding an outdoor option without making a sports facility the main focus of your visit.

Cycling and winter activities

The local cycling network connects to Québec’s Route verte. Charlemagne’s cycling routes are also cleared of snow year-round. If you would like to include cycling in your vacation plans, these offer two concrete points of reference: the connection to Route verte and winter snow clearing. This does not provide further information about individual routes or travel times.

Winter also brings its own activities: Charlemagne has two large outdoor ice rinks and a sledding hill. These seasonal options are clearly different from the sports facilities and walking trail mentioned above.

Walking tours and local history

The Circuit patrimonial de Charlemagne is an interpretive walking tour focused on the architectural heritage. It opened in 2017 and includes twelve sites. Allow about 45 minutes of walking time for the tour.

Another way to explore the area’s history is the Circuit des Bâtisseurs et Personnalités, an outdoor historical trail. The Mur des Bâtisseurs et personnalités is also related to this theme: it pays tribute to Charlemagnois who have shaped local history. The Bibliothèque Camille-Laurin also offers an annual program of activities, conferences and events. This gives you a choice between a tour of the architectural heritage, an outdoor historical trail and a program at the library.

A temporarily closed attraction

Parc Charlemagne-Laurier has tennis courts, but it will be closed from August 10 until the end of November 2026 for redevelopment work. If tennis is part of your plans, take this closure into account if you are visiting during that period.
