Hunts Point: Lobster Tradition, Beach and Golf
Accommodation in Hunts Point
Hunts Point combines a seasonal lobster tradition with a beach, a multi-use trail and golf. The start of the lobster fishery is especially memorable: the first day is known here as “dumping day.” At dawn, fishing families gather at the wharves to watch the boats head out. In Queens County, lobster season runs from the last Monday in November to May 31. Regulations may change these dates; check the season before planning your trip.
Beach, Trail and Golf in Hunts Point
The Hunts Point Trail is designated as a multi-use trail between Bog Rd and Silver Rock Dr. Its redesignation in 2024 replaced its previous classification as a walking-only trail. A provincial road trail runs from the inland end of Beech Hill Road to the Hunts Point Trail, which follows a former railway bed. Road-trail status and trail conditions may change; check the latest information before using it.
Hunts Point Beach is a smaller beach with a view of the wharf and a swimming spot. There are no facilities there. Check this information before your visit. If you’d rather spend your time being active, Hunts Point is also home to the public White Point Golf Club: the course has nine holes and offers green-fee options. Confirm current terms before booking.
Lobster fishing is also reflected in the food: the “Thursday Night Lobster Suppers” include a dinner featuring a whole Atlantic lobster. Check current menu details before your trip.
