Deep Brook: Clements West and Church History
Accommodation in Deep Brook
Deep Brook brings together local church history and a distinctive coastal setting: Deep Brook United Baptist Church is also known as Clements West, while Still Point Lodge sits on a headland overlooking the coast and the Annapolis Basin. These two facets offer different ways to get to know the community and its surroundings.
The History of Clements West
Deep Brook United Baptist Church, also known as Clements West, was built around 1871. Services were originally held in the local schoolhouse; in its early years, the church was strongly shaped by the leadership of Israel Potter. Clements West Baptist Church and the local Anglican church shared the building until the Anglican church received its own building around 1881. Thus, both the beginnings in the schoolhouse and a period of sharing a building are part of local church history.
