Our Lady of Lourdes: Trails, Culture and Winter Activities
Accommodation in Our Lady of Lourdes
Gentle rolling hills, trails and a varied community life give Our Lady of Lourdes its own character. Located in the Pembina Hills, the town combines outdoor experiences and sports activities with insights into its history. When choosing your holiday rental, it is therefore important to consider which aspects of the destination interest you most: outdoor recreation, winter activities or cultural discoveries.
Trails, Sports and Time Outdoors
The Community Health Trails in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes comprise three trails. This gives you options if you would like to include time on the trails in your trip. No specific distances are given for the three trails, so they cannot be compared by a particular distance. Another sports facility is located at Notre-Dame Park, which has four baseball diamonds. Two have been modernized, and two are currently being upgraded. The park also has a playground for children. If you are travelling with family, you can make the play area a separate stop on your itinerary; baseball enthusiasts will find four diamonds in the same park.
Activities at the Outdoor Recreation Area change with the seasons: ice skating is offered there in winter, and pickleball and basketball in summer. Which of these options suits your stay depends on whether you would prefer to plan a winter activity or summer sports. The facilities range from trails and baseball to seasonal sports.
Winter Trails and Scenery
The La Perdrix Trails offer a 4 km cross-country ski trail and a regularly groomed snowshoe trail. The ski trail’s length gives you a specific reference point for planning your day; no distance is provided for the snowshoe trail. If you would like to plan your stay around a particular winter activity, these two options are clearly distinct. The gently rolling Pembina Hills form the scenic backdrop to Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes. When choosing your accommodation, you can weigh outdoor experiences and local attractions as different priorities for your trip.
Insights into History and Local Heritage
The Musée des Pionniers et des Chanoinesses houses approximately 10,000 historical, technical and artistic objects, as well as several archives. Part of the museum is dedicated to the Chanoinesses, who settled here in 1891, shortly after the town was founded. This combination of collections and local history makes the museum an important cultural highlight to explore in Our Lady of Lourdes.
Other memorials reflect the town’s history in different ways. The Dom Paul Benoît Monument is a bronze statue honouring the parish founder, Dom Paul Benoît, and the pioneers of Lourdes. The Soeurs du Sauveur Monument commemorates the centenary of the Chanoinesses Régulières des Cinq Plaies du Sauveur (Sœurs du Sauveur). The Coupola offers a specific glimpse into the area’s architectural history: completed in 1913, it stands in front of Foyer Notre-Dame, where it is open to the public.
Planning Your Stay
There are also practical details to help with planning: campsites at Notre Dame Campground and the shelter at Notre-Dame Park can be reserved online. These are reservations for the named facilities, not holiday rentals. The King Korn Maze is also nearby, located one mile south and a quarter-mile west of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes.
