Coopers Green Park in Halfmoon Bay combines beach and recreation across a large, grassy, tree-lined area; Dakota Ridge in Roberts Creek offers its own winter highlight. Waterfront and Culture at Coopers Green Park
Coopers Green Park is in Halfmoon Bay and offers a view across the Strait of Georgia. Park features include a swimming beach and a public boat launch for recreational boats. In summer, you can play beach volleyball on a sandy field; the park is also a popular place for diving. A barbecue pit and washrooms are also available. Seasonal conditions at the swimming beach may vary. Operating conditions at the boat launch may also change; check them before planning to use it.
The park’s name has a special connection to the waterfront: in Shashishalhem, Coopers Green Park is called tituls. The shishalh Elders Language Group chose tituls as the name for the large rocks in the park’s beach and water area. The name thus refers to a specific feature of the landscape.
Trails Through Halfmoon Bay and Roberts Creek
Connor Park and Welcome Woods have extensive hiking and cycling trails that run through Halfmoon Bay. At Connor Park, you’ll find a large grass sports field, two baseball fields and a playground. There is also a bike skills area maintained by the local Sprockids organization. This lets you combine trails through the community with a visit to a park that also has dedicated sports and play areas.
At Cliff Gilker Park in Roberts Creek, seven kilometres of forest trails pass over wooden bridges spanning streams and by numerous waterfalls. The park also has a 30-metre wheelchair-accessible trail with a viewing platform. A sports field, playground, baseball field, covered and uncovered picnic areas, and washrooms round out the park’s amenities. Temporary bridge closures may affect access; check the latest official notices before your visit.
Winter Activities at Dakota Ridge
Dakota Ridge in Roberts Creek is a winter recreation area on a 1,532-acre plateau. There are 20 kilometres of cross-country ski trails for classic and skate skiing. There are also four kilometres of groomed snowshoe trails, three kilometres of wilderness snowshoe trails and a tobogganing area. The different types of routes let you choose among cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and tobogganing without having to combine these activities into a single loop.
Dakota Ridge is accessible only by four-wheel-drive vehicles equipped with tire chains; winter road conditions may change. Check access conditions before planning your drive.

The Suncoaster Trail currently ends at the intersection of Highway 101 and Homesite Creek Forest Service Road in Halfmoon Bay. Check the endpoint before using it as the basis for a specific hike.
Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park is near the destination. The trail there is four kilometres long, making it eight kilometres round trip. The wide, wooded path runs through second-growth forest, and interpretive signs explain the area’s logging history. This offers a different kind of nature experience from the trails through Halfmoon Bay or the forest trails at Cliff Gilker Park.
