Redwood Meadows lies in the Foothills, where the Great Plains end and the Rockies begin. The Elbow River flows alongside the community. This landscape provides the setting for a destination where walking and hiking trails, cycling routes, winter sports and community facilities appeal to a range of interests. If you’re planning a family trip, you might start by asking whether spending time outdoors together, sports activities or local culture should be the focus.

Trails and Winter by the River

Redwood Meadows Townsite offers community walking trails, hiking trails and cycling routes. This gives you several ways to get active: you can plan a walk during your trip or consider hiking and cycling as activities. The options suit different preferences without requiring you to choose a particular route or difficulty level. For families, it can be helpful to agree in advance on which activity would make for an enjoyable day together.

In winter, cross-country ski tracks are groomed on the flood-control berm along the river in Redwood Meadows. Cross-country skiing is therefore a seasonal option, distinct from the walking, hiking and cycling routes. If winter sports are among your travel interests, this offers a specific point to consider when planning your trip. The tracks are on the berm; they are not the same as an alpine ski resort.

Sports and Recreation

The central recreation area includes a soccer field, tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball field and a skate park. The range spans ball sports to skateboarding. Families and groups travelling together can compare their leisure interests and decide which of these sports to include in their trip plans. Alongside its river and foothills landscape, the community also has a sporting side.

Redwood Meadows also has an outdoor skating rink with a heated change room and washroom facilities. A disc golf course is located by the river and can be reached via the berm next to the playing fields and tennis court. If you prefer golf, you’ll find the Redwood Meadows Golf Club, which has a full-service clubhouse. These varied options make sports and physical activity a possible focus when exploring the community.

Redwood Yards is also part of the local character: visitors who don’t play golf are welcome there too, when it is open. This qualification is important for planning; it does not specify regular opening hours. If you’re considering a visit, keep in mind that entry depends on it being open.

Community, History and Culture

Redwood Meadows is located within the TsuuT'ina Nation. The name “Redwood Yard” comes from a term used by TsuuT'ina Nation Elders: after a bushfire in 1940, they named the area for the reddish new growth of poplars and spruce trees. This story connects the place name to the landscape and its vegetation.

Community activities are also part of life here. The Redwood Meadows Community Association organizes local events, including an annual Easter egg hunt with a pancake breakfast, Canada Day and Santa in the Woods. The Tsuut’ina Nation Annual Celebration Powwow features Grand Entries, drum music, dance performances and singing competitions. If you’re interested in local culture and events, you can make these traditions a focus of your trip.

At the Redwood Meadows Community Garden, people come together to grow food and learn from one another, despite the distinctive and sometimes challenging climate. The garden represents community gardening and the exchange of knowledge. Together with the sports facilities, trails and cultural events, it contributes to a varied picture of the community, without requiring you to choose just one kind of stay.

When choosing a vacation rental, your preferred way to travel can be a useful starting point: perhaps you mainly want to spend time outdoors, include winter sports, use sports facilities or discover local culture. Redwood Meadows offers a range of themes to consider as you decide whether the community is right for you.
