Raymond: Rodeo Tradition, Culture and Leisure Activities

Rodeo tradition, local history and a variety of sports give Raymond a distinctive character. There are also opportunities for swimming together and spending leisure time on the golf course. Visitors planning a stay can explore a range of interests—from learning about the community’s history to enjoying exercise and sports.

Rodeo Tradition and Local History

Raymond’s first rodeo took place on July 1, 1902; since then, the rodeo has been held every year on that date. The Raymond Stampede Grounds are also designed for rodeo events. Newly built in 2024, the grounds can accommodate approximately 750 spectators. Rodeo events held there include roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, breakaway roping and bull riding. Raymond thus combines a rodeo tradition celebrated annually since 1902 with the newly built Stampede Grounds from 2024.

The Raymond Pioneer Museum offers another perspective on the town. Its local history exhibits bring the community’s past to life for visitors. The museum was founded in 1989 by the Raymond & District Historical Society. Visitors interested in the development of community life can find their own way into the town’s history here, while the rodeo presents local tradition from a different perspective.

Water, Sports and Shared Activities

The Raymond Aquatic Centre offers several types of water activities: its facilities include two waterslides, a climbing wall and diving boards at heights of one and three metres, as well as a pool with junior Olympic-sized lanes. There are also water play features, shallow beach-style entry points and a dedicated toddler area. When planning your visit, you can consider whether you’d rather swim laps, enjoy the play features or visit the designated area with toddlers. Between swims, you can make use of the shaded picnic area—a place to take a break before heading back into the water.

Victoria Sports Park brings together several sports facilities, each offering a different kind of activity. The park includes three regulation-sized multi-purpose grass fields and Comet Stadium. Its regulation-sized artificial turf field is designed for year-round play and community events. Volleyball enthusiasts will find three lit courts for recreational and competitive play at the Beach Volleyball Complex.

Golf and Skating

The scenic Hell's Creek Golf Course is a nine-hole course that offers the experience of a full 18-hole course. A newly expanded creek winds through the entire golf course. Each hole offers three tee options.

The Raymond Ice Arena offers a full-sized ice surface for hockey, skating and community events. Alongside golf and the facilities at the Sports Park, ice sports and community events are among the leisure activities available in Raymond.
