In Kokdzhar, the Joon-Aryk River is recorded in the southern part of the settlement; at the same time, it lies on the eastern side of Kokdzhar. The name Kök-Jar is associated with terms for blue or green as well as with terms for a gorge, a cliff, or a steep riverbank.

Kochkor is used as a center for community-based tourism to organize jeeps, horses, and overnight stays in yurts for Song-Kul. Women's cooperatives in Kochkor produce Shyrdak patchwork and rolled felt carpets of the Ala-kiyiz type.
