Toktogul: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

Toktogul is located on the northern shore of the Toktogul Reservoir. The reservoir lies on the Naryn River and is Kyrgyzstan’s largest man-made lake. When planning a trip, you may wish to find a vacation apartment in Toktogul.

Nature

The Alatay State Nature Park was established in the nearby area of the Toktogul District to preserve unique natural complexes and biodiversity. The Toktogul Reservoir has a sandy beach and nesting sites for birds. In summer, its water can warm to around 28°C.

Culture

The Toktogul Reservoir and the Toktogul Hydroelectric Station are named after the Kyrgyz akyn Toktogul Satylganov. The T. Satylganov memorial museum opened in Toktogul in 1989. A monument in the Toktogul area commemorates Khan Sadyr Arzymat uulu, a Kyrgyz commander and leader of the 18th century.

The dam of the Toktogul Hydroelectric Station is 215 meters high and 292 meters wide. The station has four generating units and a total capacity of 1,200 megawatts. Toktogul has simple guesthouses and small hotels suitable for overnight stops.

By the Water

Fishing, diving, motorcycle tours, and jeep tours are possible in the area of the Toktogul Reservoir. Camping is possible beside the Toktogul Reservoir; supplies can be obtained by returning to Toktogul. Near the Toktogul Reservoir, cafés, yurts, and roadside food stalls serve trout dishes and local specialties.

Getting Around

The Chychkan Gorge Waterfall Hike is located nearby, a seven-mile round-trip route with caves and Waterfall Unkur. It is about 15 minutes from Toktogul by taxi. A CBT itinerary offers a moderately difficult, multi-day driving and trekking route from Toktogul toward Sary-Chelek, including horseback riding, camping, mountain passes, and excursions to mountain lakes. A multi-day trekking route branches off the main road toward the Toktogul Reservoir before reaching Toktogul, then continues through mountain valleys and over passes toward the Sary-Chelek area. In the wider region, the Toktogul to Arslanbob Horseback Tour connects the remote mountains of the Toktogul region with Arslanbob.
