Taras: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the central part of the modern city, the ruins of the ancient settlement of Taraz have been preserved. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Taras can then continue searching for accommodation.

At the Ancient Taraz Archaeological Park, walkways lead across medieval archaeological structures. The park and museum were developed as a historical and cultural complex after large-scale archaeological work began in 2011.

The Karakhan Mausoleum stands in the centre of Taraz. It is believed to stand above the grave of Shah Mahmud Karakhan, a representative of the Karakhanid dynasty. The present-day Karakhan Mausoleum was built in 1906 by local residents on the site of an earlier structure.

The surviving 13th-century Dautbek Mausoleum is identified by the full name Ulugh-Bilge Iqbal-khan Davud-bek-Shamansur. It acquired its present form in the late 19th century, with vaulted passageways and two dummy minarets. The funerary inscription commemorates a Turkic commander described as the “lord of pen and sword” and gives 31 March 1262 as his date of death.

The Tekturmas Mausoleum stands on a hill on the right bank of the Talas River. A new Tekturmas Mausoleum was built in 2002 exactly on the site of the former mausoleum.

The Kone Taraz ethnocultural complex is located in the centre of Taraz and is designed in an Eastern architectural style. A 350-metre-long canal runs through the complex and is decorated with fountains and small architectural features.

The monument to the Kazakh Khanate rises above the western entrance to Taraz. It comprises a 27-metre-high white marble stele with panels bearing the names Kerey and Zhanibek.

The ZERBULAK water park was opened in Taraz on the site of a lake with the same name.
