Shym Qala presents excavated historical findings: a blacksmith's workshop and a residential building from the 17th–18th century, a pre-Christian temple with evidence of Zoroastrian rituals, exhibition rooms in the citadel, and an exhibition in an underground fortress.

The Museum Association of Shymkent has halls dedicated to the ancient history of the steppe, sacred heritage, economic and social life, and the cultures of the peoples of Kazakhstan. The Hakim Abai Museum offers guided tours, video screenings, lectures, and open classes on Abai's work. It is located in Abai Park.
Shymkent's Local History Museum includes collections on natural history, metalwork, fine art, photographic documents, weapons, wooden products, archaeology, newspapers, and wool and cotton products.
