Taldykol: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes
One to two pairs of Demoiselle Cranes regularly breed in the Kulykol-Taldykol lake system. During migration, the lake system serves as a resting place for Siberian Cranes. It has been confirmed as a Key Biodiversity Area of international importance and is also one of four wetlands in the Qostanai Region recognized as Ramsar Sites.
Those who choose Taldykol as a travel destination may want to rent a vacation apartment.
Landscape
Lake Taldykol covers 11.2 km², with most of its surface covered by reed beds. Salt-tolerant grasslands are found along its shore. Lake Kulykol contains several small islands; the largest serves as a breeding site for colonial birds. Lake Kulykol is an elongated body of water that stretches approximately 10 km from north to south and is up to 4.9 km wide.
The Kulykol-Taldykol lake system lies on the right bank of the upper Tobol River, in the dry-steppe subzone with feather grass–fescue and wormwood–fescue communities. The floodplain meadows north and southwest of Lake Taldykol can turn into marshes during severe flooding.
Nature and Land Use
Forty-five breeding bird species have been recorded in the Kulykol-Taldykol lake system. When water levels are high, up to 450,000 birds gather at this site during the autumn migration. Two to three pairs of Eurasian Cranes are found at Lake Taldykol.
Commercial fishing is carried out on Lake Taldykol. The surrounding fields are a popular area for recreational hunting among many Kazakh and Russian people.
Location
A settlement of the same name is located on the southern shore of Lake Taldykol. The Denisovka–Pskovskoye road runs 12 km west of Lake Kulykol. A railway line runs 4.5 km from the eastern boundary of the biodiversity area.
