The village of Bukharbay Batyr, known as Aksay until 1997, is located 13 kilometers south of Zhalagash on the left bank of the Syr Darya. Three kilometers southeast of the village is Sorlyasar, an archaeological settlement dating from the 6th to 9th centuries.

In the broader regional area of the Qyzylorda Region, Aksay is mentioned among the former channels of the Syr Darya that have been preserved there. This gives the wider area a historical landscape connection to the river.
History and Culture
The settlement developed from 1930 onward as the Kalinin collective farm and received its current name, Bukharbay Batyr, in 1993.
The Bukharbay Batyr Museum opened in 1994 on a community basis. The museum building was reconstructed in 2012, and the museum operates as a branch of the district museum of history and local studies. Its exhibition consists of six sections.
A mosque named after Bukharbay was built for local residents.
