History

The Sary-Shagan test site is described as the place where, in 1961, a ballistic missile warhead was destroyed for the first time in the world by a V-1000 interceptor. It is also described as having been established near Lake Balkhash in 1956 to develop technical solutions for a missile defense system against ballistic missiles.

Transport

Sary-Shagan railway station is located within the settlement of Saryshagan. It is situated on the Moyynty–Birlik 1 railway line between Koktas and Sulyzher. The station offers baggage handling for travelers and ticket sales.

Passenger trains passing through the station include services on the Kyzylorda–Astana, Astana–Saryagash, Shymkent–Astana, and Almaty–Pawlodar routes. The passenger platform in Saryshaghan is currently being reconstructed in sections, while train movements and passenger services continue without interruption.
