Petrova: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Near Petrova, the West Altai State Nature Reserve protects landscapes of the West Altai black taiga. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Petrova can then continue searching for accommodation.

Nature

The West Altai State Nature Reserve encompasses cedar-fir forests, dark-conifer taiga, subalpine and alpine meadows, and mountain tundra communities. More than 200 bird species and 52 mammal species have been recorded in the reserve.

The Altai Botanical Garden is also nearby. It covers 154.2 hectares and extends from the floodplain of the Bystrukha River to the rocky slopes of the Ivanovsky Ridge. Its collection includes medicinal, ornamental, food and fodder plants, as well as rare and endangered plants.

Activities

The Recreation Base Altai Alps is located in Gornaya Ulbinka. It rents out skis and snowboards, offers a sauna, and has a ropes course and four cable cars. The facility also provides cabins, rooms and pavilions.

Meteorite Lake can be reached from a pass: before descending to Fish Lake, turn left. The Ulba rafting tour is recommended from early May to the end of July. Regional geological sites include Gornaya Ulbinka and the West Altai State Nature Reserve.

Culture

The Ridder Local History Museum preserves 32,571 collection items. Its holdings include archaeological, ethnographic, palaeontological and photographic documentary collections.

KazZinc operates museums at its facilities in Ust-Kamenogorsk and Ridder. A visitor route operated by KazZinc begins in a museum. The KazZinc museums display raw materials and finished products made from gold, silver, zinc, lead and copper.

Ridder can be reached from Ust-Kamenogorsk by taxi or by transfer in minibuses and passenger cars.
